↩ FromTimeToTime as for the desktop environment, i always come back to kde, but it's worth it to try the others. many of the graphical bugs you will experience are caused by qt (upstream of kde). it's a lot better after you customize it. take unixporn and similar sources for inspiration.
i might try like MATE this time around or something. i cant bring myself back to KDE after kubuntu.
Quote↩ FromTimeToTime it's just arch. it won't be very different from manjaro
will this still have wine bugs?

↩ Tizz i'd probably give mint a shot next. i found it alright the last time i had it
another lindog update
i've been maining pop os for a few days now and having a few highs and a lot of lows. good thing is i managed to get photoshop to run. i've tried it with the banner for https://forum.totalfreedom.me/d/2726-minismp…mber-at-1pm-bst and my minecraft crashed whilst i was running this. also another thing despite having wine-gecko setup, CEPHtmlEngine was screaming at me till the libraries tab got closed. was so fucking annoying. another thing is i have no fucking clue on how to properly pin this as whenever i try to put a terminal command in a shortcut theres no dice and its fucking doing my head in

i will be taking a break from trying to main linux for a good minute. admittedly i haven't been lucky with this, shits stressing me out now and and things are gonna heat up more. will revisit this though since on occasion it was fun to figure out and learn to an extent i cant fully grasp it at the moment
current stance on linux for my kind of use - not pretty

Have you tried doudoulinux yet? I think it's perfectly fit for you

i've been back in a saddle for a bit
long story short, i tried mate and didn't like it. then i installed budgie over linux mint mate and now we're on the actual ubuntu budgie. this has been really good so far this time.

Post mortem
so i think at this point, with my setup i've given it a pretty generous shot. i've learned a lot on this little thing i've done and im fairly satisfied with how budgie has been against all other things. its at an end now thanks to my new SSD and i couldn't be fucked to deal with grub n shit on my hard drive. shit there is reserved for data like videos now
do i think its for everyone? absolutely not. if you are someone who browses the net and does office shit then you can get away with using this with a very simple desktop environment. any further then that will depend on who you are. proton is very hit and miss from my experience and really isn't the silver bullet at this current moment for some games i've tried. it works better then it has done yeah sure but sometimes dicking around with shit like i've done is irritating when you just wanna open and play a game and dont get me wrong, it has happened but others needed external setup. if you wanna do anything more advanced then that, you gotta get used to that command line which dont get me wrong, it is satisfying to use and customise when you know how to but its really not for everyone
i still think, at the end of the day windows still has a leg up although it pegs itself with absurd system requirements (Windows 11, shit does not like a 2nd gen ryzen which runs it perfectly) and a terrible resource footprint. it being a service nowadays comes with its own issues down the road yet out of the two, windows is more familiar to an end user who knows fuck all. its easy to troubleshoot issues and get familiar with how it does shit. with linux some applications dont even show why shit closes so you need to open it in a terminal to get suitable feedback.
if you are genuinely into this field of software or any kind of enthusiast that somehow hasn't given linux a through shot then yeah i would encourage doing so if you are resilient enough because it was an interesting experience trying to customise it and to see how it ticks and its useful to be familiar with it if you ever go into anything maintaining non windog systems. but if you an average joe, you're likely better off with 10 LTSC imho because otherwise you'll want to smash the fuck out of your nearest orphanage
