just saying but IP addresses are technically public information. there's no real leaking to it. there's tons of people who have your IP in there server logs, esp. for websites n shit.
ya dont like it? get off the internet.
-
Yeah we should probably stop leaking IPs, heard this ItzSergioCobra guy has threatened to DDOS them.
Quote! If the obvious sarcasm wasn't enough, IPs are public information. Every site you use knows your IP and there's not really much you can do with them. There's only an estimated 50-75% chance that your IP address will accurately say what City you're in. For example, every IP address I use will always say I am in Belfast despite Belfast being around 30 miles away from me.

↩ erin It's not really a problem in the slightest, he'll be breaking the law if he even attempts to do so.
If I remember correctly, there have been many threads on this exact issue in the past. The conclusion was that it's just not an important enough issue to be cared for. If this ever did become such a big deal, you'd have to make the decision to privatise the IBR's, no-one wants that.
All in all, if someone is that worried about their IP being leaked... click the button on the back of your router and restart it
[size=8]p.s I totally knew that was sarcasm, don't even come for me

ok buddy

↩ root Actually it's a case per case basis, some IP Addresses can be determined to be "Personal Information" in cases such as having a static IP which can be linked to identifiable information,
such as a username, if that were the case, it would fall under EU's data protection law.
I couldn't really find much legal text about it in English, so here's a french one - here's a court case in english - And here's UK's information commisioner's office mentioning it too -
so first off, on an indef ban im pretty sure if you ask kindly to a forum mod for your ip to be redacted (thats my understanding) also it is public information

That is not entirely correct. We ended up removing IPs from ingame ban messages because it was causing tons of threads just like this one. Permban requests were originally admin-only, they've only been public for the last few years.
-
↩ StevenNL2000 However, the difference between ban messages and IBRs is that the IP needs to be provided. If you don't provide the IP in the IBR, then it makes things a whole lot more difficult for no reason.
-
↩ Shdwo There once was an idea to create an admin-only spoiler. Typing something like [admin]127.0.0.1[admin] would make the text inside only visible to admins, while the rest of the post was visible to everyone normally. Ryan doesn't want to develop plugins for Flarum, but if we ever move somewhere else, I think it would be very useful for things like this.
-
Bump on this; Someone was indefinitely forum sanctioned for posting ips of players. Obviously not the same circumstances, but clearly there is an issue with posting ips, so I don't understand why IBRs still don't have some way around this. In regards to Steven's post, does Ryan himself not want to develop them or is he against the idea in general? If its the first, maybe we could find someone to make a plugin.
-
If IPs are so public why dont yall drop yours right here? Sounds pretty dumb when you say it like that. I think the admin spoiler idea is good.
-
Did shdwo just post his ip and then delete it?
-
↩ MiasmusAlt No, I forgot I had VPN on
-
↩ MiasmusAlt shdwo ip reveal lol

Ryan does not want plugins to be developed specifically for Flarum.
