Have you ever noticed that we tend to to skip certain words and we don’t always notice when there are two of of them? Crazy right?
Why does the the human brain ignore the second "the"?

I think I read that your brain actually only reads like 30% of the words actually written and just auto fills the rest or something like that. So when you have double the it just assumes it's mis skim read and moves on.

pretty sure your brain automatically corrects or fills in missing pieces of a sentence to make it sensible
since your brain can understand the sentence even though it is grammatically incorrect, it judges it to make sense and so ignores any issues with it -
↩ enchy yup, which is also why giving up the fight over grammatical correctness in places that don't necessarily require it is a good idea (seriously, if it's still understandable, it's fine)
just like the equivalent situation over the word "literally"
