Can we expect a NATO response if evidence of chemical warfare is found in Ukraine? We have heard Biden publicly announce that America would have some sort of response but would that be anything more than further sanctions and military aid towards the country?
not surprised the Russians have plenty of experience using chemical weapons in syria
↩ @'Miasmus.' MAD's function is the exact opposite of miwo's statement. MAD discourages the usage of mass destruction weapons, it doesn't encourage it.
Regarding a NATO reaction over chemical weapons, I think we are playing a game of chicken with Putin. Its highly likely that either side will reach a "tipping" point if this situation doesn't deescalate fast. If Putin begins to further commit war crimes against Ukrainian civilians without backlash, we put him in a position of power. I think the significance of this situation rests solely on how far Putin is willing to violate the international human rights law.
Quote↩ DragonSlayer2189 Yes, nuking people is a valid threat mainly due to the fact that if they actually did it, it would certainly start WWIII.
↩ mattlawn not worth killing Four billion people over the us would only use military force if a NATO nation was attacked
Certainly. Good to know that nukes = a free pass to violate human rights, war conventions and so on.
Worst part is that I don't even have an answer myself. MAD - shouldn't - be a get-out-of-jail card. Only solution is to completely cut said country off from the rest of the world in terms of trade, travel and politics.
