@Shdwo#16428 I disagree that "Flarum is shit at everything else", but I definitely agree that we should have a clean theme similar to Flarum. I think with some polishing, Video's theme could be fine for those who prefer it. But I don't like it, and I think there will be a lot of people in the same boat, just a plain theme would be really nice.

Honestly I think the new theme looks pretty bad. I wish the posts appeared on a solid background compared to having a blur over an image (similar how to MyBB, Flarum, and ProBoards have all had their themes).

The default WoltLab theme looks miles better. That would actually be tolerable if it had a dark version. Also, why is the padding so big?

I mean, I think this padding or font can be a little smaller

In terms of improvement for Video's theme, why is it so bad?

You can barely see any distinction between the quotes except for the text being spaced. Also it's really hard to tell if a thread is selected. You have to click on the title of the thread as well. On Flarum, you can click anywhere on the line of the thread and it'll bring you there. I think that's a genuine functionality improvement that should be implemented on WoltLab.

Other improvements are to put the sidebar at the top of the page with the user info and fix the padding

What's the point of a dashboard if you can't customize it? Shouldn't you be able to add or remove what you want to your dashboard? Seems kind of useless if not and in my opinion the boards should be at the homepage of the forum.

I also don't understand why the categories tab on the articles page has to take it up and then there be dead space under it. The comment section feels crammed.

Also, I think the padding for discussions is pretty big. If there was a normal theme instead of a blur on an image, we could have lines to separate threads.

I think the background not only looks bad especially with that image, but if it was a normal solid color, you could have lines separate it and not have such big padding. I mean, if you look at iMessage or WhatsApp which has "bubbles" like the forum, they aren't even padded as big as they are on this forum.

Also, what's up with uploading images? Why do we need to put a source and a link? Isn't that the same thing?

The final two things are I think there should be an option to let us have a smaller profile picture sidebar view. Feels like the avatar is too big which makes the rest of the sidebar too big. And finally, I think that the logo is too big. On a laptop, the logo seems to take up most of the screen. On Flarum, the title is small enough that you can still get a glimpse if a lot has happened since you last saw the forum. I mean, just look at how much space is being used on WoltLab compared to Flarum

I personally don't like the new forums. I feel like Flarum had a really good design, but doesn't have a great suite of features or permission system. ProBoards had both a great design and a lot of features, but we've already had this argument a million times. So, I hope that these suggestions are considered and we don't have another MyBB forum.

    To both above ^

I was thinking that but I'm not sure what system allows for that. I've only had experience with Arlo and Digital Watchdog. Arlo is wireless which I don't want. Digital Watchdog (at least the box I'm familiar with) only connects to the DVR. I'm not sure what system can find other camera on the LAN. I'm pretty sure UniFi Protect does but from what I've read it's unreliable and lacking of features. I'll have to find a system that has that feature then, thanks

So I have a question about UniFi switching that I can't really put into words. I kind of want to emulate a patch panel with my switch. So here's the problem. I have Switch 1 which is at our house. There is a fiber link underground which gets converted to Ethernet and that plugs into Switch 2.

Let's say I buy some PoE cameras. Normally, you could just run an Ethernet cable back to the server room and connect it to the switch or the patch panel and then the switch. This would work for one house, but what if I want to get cameras out where Switch 2 is? The distance between the fiber cable and where the cameras would be is around 300ft. This is too long for any Ethernet cable and it would be kind of stupid to run one that long anyway.

So my question is this. Is there any way to essentially route my network like this:
I plug a security camera into Switch 2 port 2. That gets passed back to Switch 1 port 7 where the DVR is. I can then plug in a cable from Switch 1 port 7 to the DVR and then DVR thinks it's getting the connection right from the camera.

These are the options I have for configuring the switches

If I switch it to mirroring (which is what I think I need) it asks for a mirroring port. But I would want that from Switch 2, not a different port on Switch 1. Am I just out of luck?

    Thanks

@StevenNL2000#15146 blockshub is not an easy plugin to compile. i got it to compile once but everything inside the pom is pretty much broken. even then I still couldn't get the actual blockshub to compile, only the apis and helpers and stuff. The author has been unresponsive too. i think it's a pressing issue and should be top priority in general, but it's not an easy thing to do

The first Maven release has happened for the first time in quite a while. The previous version was 3.6.3 and the newest release is 3.8.1. This release fixed two CVEs: CVE-2021-26291 and CVE-2020-13956.

The most important change is that HTTP repositories are now blocked. Every repo will now need to use HTTPS. This is to prevent MITM attacks. The options are to stick with this old version of Maven or upgrade to HTTPS.

They also included an explanation why the version went from 3.6.3 to 3.8.1.

    Why not 3.6.4?
This is not just a bugfix as it contains three features that cause a change of default behavior (external HTTP insecure URLs are now blocked by default): your builds may fail when using this new Maven release, if you use now blocked repositories. Please check and eventually fix before upgrading.

    Why not 3.7.0?
Apache Maven 3.7.0 has been advertised in the past that it would be the first release where you could optionally activate the build/consumer feature: the version containing this feature has been renamed to 4.0.0. Reusing 3.7.0 might lead to confusion, hence we picked the next available minor version.

    Why not 3.8.0?
With every release there’s a 72h+ voting period. During the vote of 3.8.0 a bug was discovered, one that was important enough to cancel the vote. With Maven we burn versions, to ensure we’re always talking about the same “version”. This way there will be never confusion about which Maven 3.8.0 one was using.
