I'm going to be honest, I'm not terribly fond of the corporate direction TF is heading. However, the one thing I will give this direction a huge amount of credit for is the fact that under Ryan's ownership, we have not had a case of smartnt #2 because of how professional things have become. I would pick an owner who prevents corruption by being more professional over anything else because of this.

I'm going to repeat what I said in another thread:

videogamesm12 I must note that Discord actually doesn’t care too much about accounts created when the owner was a minor but now isn’t. When they started requiring date of birth to access NSFW channels back in 2019-2021 (which usually leads to an account deletion if you give it information that makes it think it’s 12), I ended up putting my date of birth in and it didn’t give a shit.

If Discord doesn't give a shit about it, then neither should we.

    Name of event:
    Scambaiting

    Prerequisites:

    • A convincing-looking VM*, filled with booby trapped documents
    • A VoIP service that isn't blocked by scammer numbers
    • A list of scammer phone numbers to dial

*=If running Windows, the VM should contain a shitton of bloatware, adware, and booby traps. If running Linux, install an old unstable version of Wine so that any known graphical glitches or stability issues confuse the fuck out of the scammer.

    Server best fit:
None. The event would be over Discord.

    Ideal minimum players to start:
    At least 5 users.

    How it will work:
Users take turns calling up tech support scammers using VoIP services and try to either waste as much of the scammers' time as possible or piss them off using VMs they set up. This would occur in a Discord voice channel or stage.

    Rules:

    • Don't do anything illegal

    Prizes:
One hell of a night for everyone

This is a large collection of messages from the original Discord server, containing messages from February 2016 to July 2019.

This is what Discord used to look like back in the day.

The original Discord server was created by Ryan all the way back in early 2016. At the time, Skype was still a very popular way for admins to communicate with eachother. There used to be group chats full of admins where everybody would just hang out. As Discord became more prominent, the popularity of Skype declined quickly. The Discord server itself would evolve over time, with a NSFW channel existing (and then being removed) and at some point, a bridge between the Minecraft server and the Discord server was added (a key part of the server nowadays). Unfortunately, in October 2020 it was deleted by Seth alongside the server and both forums (ProBoards and Flarum).

The evidence has shown that it has been a year since Noah was banned for being 12 years old. He is 13, and all signs point to it. There is no reason to keep him banned, nor is there a reason for him to present an ID. Not only that, but as Erin said, he decided to play things honestly by appealing. Objectively, an unban is the route that makes the most sense.

I am on the verge of making a leap of faith by unbanning Noah myself, but this is also something I know I will get hell for, which is why doing it is very much out of my comfort zone. So, I'm going to ask one last time -- please reconsider your decision in the face of evidence and community-wide support, before I break out of my comfort zone to do what I feel is necessary.

The TwitterBot was a bot on Twitter that admins could use to verify on the server. It served similar roles to that of the Discord bot. It was introduced in January 2013 and killed off in mid-2014. The account (along with its many tweets) itself still remain on the site in a dormant state. I decided to datamine its tweets for statistics.

    Mentions

It's clear that many more tweets used to exist, but have since been lost to the sands of time. This set of data is for tweets that still exist.

Noah was banned sometime in late 2020 (October to November 2020) shortly after Ryan took over as the owner. This is confirmed by multiple messages from him from the time period where he repeatedly mentioned that he was banned from the Discord.

Around the same time as the first set of logs, the ESL at the time, Darth, also noted Noah's age being 12.

These logs were from late 2020, when he actually was 12. It's now December 2021, and we're nearing the end of the year. If we take basic mathematics, we realize that it has been more than 1 year since he was banned. 12 + 1 = 13. There is literally no need for him to provide an ID when time itself proves his age for us.

    Vouch.

characterslimits You only want to switch because of nostalgia.

I want to switch back because this forum has been incredibly unreliable for us, in contrast with ProBoards which has been known to be extremely reliable and has features built-in which aren't available on Flarum without installing dangerously insecure extensions. We literally had to spend a few days reinstalling this forum software at some point because the frontend somehow managed to kill itself, which crippled the entirety of the forum. This never happened on ProBoards. I'm not saying we should switch back for the nostalgia, I'm saying we should switch back because we have less features and more stability issues with Flarum than with ProBoards.

Every website has this nowadays. It's what keeps ProBoards going for free.

characterslimits additionally it makes our community less child-friendly, kids will start accidently buying virtual items on the forum with real-life money as they don’t know the concept of money

We had been using ProBoards for nearly 8 years and not once did we have an incident like this, even when most of the forum's userbase was under the age of 18. Kids can be stupid, but they have common sense too.

In the long term, ProBoards is actually beneficial to us because it introduces a third party who maintains the forum for us, so in case something happens with Ryan, we aren't utterly fucked. It's literally what saved our asses when Windows vanished back in 2018/2019.
