I would remove the limitations on speech and rather encourage players /ignore disruptive players (this is a much more nuanced issue and i get that but thats what I’d argue for). I’d also probably ease up grief sanctions in the flatlands, if you don’t want your build to be destroyed you should use the plotworld.

Larger goals would be removing the idea of “admin discretion”. I think its senseless and counter productive to leave things up to an admin’s judgement rather than actually spending time and documenting a staff handbook. It would make sanctions more uniform and would avoid admins losing their shit because of their own feelings etc. I say this because I know I would not sanction against things other admins might, and that’s a substantial lapse in the staffing system here. I don’t see the use for promoting admin discretion other than as a cover up for being too lazy to write a staff handbook.

On a much larger scale, I think there needs to be an executive reshuffle in the ECM and possibly ECD (not sure how much Dragon will do as assistant or what they’ve been doing) departments. The ECM team is completely stagnant and they have not had a successful event for about 8 months (I am using the last successful MiniSMP as the example here). I am sympathetic towards Lyicx after reading his demoralisation post, but frankly it isn’t enough sympathy to be okay with him sitting on an empty rank. There are plenty of capable and willing members on this server who have the drive and passion to try their best, which is a lot better than doing absolutely nothing.

You are describing a server in which the system is sovereign, at TF the individual is sovereign. Perhaps a more constant application system is needed, but denying an action early shouldn’t cause such hostility.

↩ @'wxtermelon' I think the point he was making is that if we aren’t enforcing this rule on every occasion, then we can’t expect a clear consensus on what “too far” actually means. If we make jokes about the Irish famine that go unmoderated, why are Islamophobic jokes moderated? If it is because they actually offended someone (in this case yourself), then are we allowed to make dark humour jokes if they do not offend anyone? What if I am now offended by something that happened a while ago? It’s a murky grey area is the point Rex was making.

FWIW if Discord was a requirement I would have been suspended when Ryan decided to ban me from the disc.

But yeah perhaps a discord requirement would help, but the issue is much more complex than we are making it out to be. The real question is whether TF has become dependant on Discord as a platform. An administrator shouldnt need Discord, as they are meant to administrate the actual server. The argument for a discord requirement is a lot more nuanced as it implies that having Discord is essential to moderating, when it shouldn’t be.

I believe that the server has definitely become irretrievably dependant on Discord. The majority of our community doesn’t join the server, but would rather interact from discord; but thats a different conversation altogether.

Vouch, it is quite generic and the community seems to have a strong hatred for generic game modes. I don’t agree with any other points other than it being generic though.
