Telesphoreo Minecraft 1.18 has much better world upgrading features compared to any other version. Minecraft 1.18 will now actually consider that versions you skipped and will try to optimize. One of the new world upgrading features is called "World Blending" which is proof that 1.18 has much better support for older versions compared to any versions. I can confidently say that you can skip 1.17 and you will be fine.

@'Ryan' It's not like when someone advertises some server that I will instantly forget about TotalFreedom. Sure a user might ditch out server, but they will just return back here. In addition, allowing advertising makes our server better because it promotes competition. Instead of banning advertising, make our server better so it's harder to steal members of the community.

(2e) Advertisement of any kind which are but not limited to Discord Links, Server hostnames, IP Addresses and such are not allowed. (Common used links such as Youtube, Twitter, Forum links are acceptable)

This suggestion was made in response to @'Ivan''s post. How come are you allowed to advertise in-game but not in Discord, it makes no sense. The way the rule is written implies that you can't advertise, period. Allow people to advertise on Discord once per hour to make it consistent with the rules we have now.

    https://discuss.flarum.org/d/2…erator-warnings-extension
This extension adds moderators (or any group you add in the permissions grid) the ability to warn people. This extension adds one level down the punishment spectrum, reducing the amount of bans for small infractions. It also makes warning people more cleaner, since you don't have to warn people in the thread they broke the rule, which can derail the thread. There's also a separate permission for viewing warns, so you don't have to worry about transparency issues.

    @'Ryan' They have over-promised and under-delivered

    What promises?

    Quote

@'Ryan' it lacks basic functionality to enable a forum to be successful

Flarum is the 8th most popular Forum software in the internet. That is quite successful for a softare that "lacks basic functionality to enable a forum to be successful"

@'Ryan' it’s entire architecture is backwards

What do you mean by "backwards"?

    Quote

@'Ryan' and it’s been poorly engineered

If it was poorly engineered someone would have found a way to illegitimately get Forum Admin by now.

Alco_Rs11 It lacks something as simple as thread previews

Something that I agree. However, it isn't too hard to edit your post.

Alco_Rs11 let us not forget it lacks a “falling” feature which proboards had

As someone who has sampled like 10 forum softwares now, I can say with confidence that something that ONLY ProBoards have. Stop hating Flarum for not having a super rare feature.

Alco_Rs11 and doesn’t look good at all

That's because you don't care about quality. You just care about complexity (which is what appeals everyone for some reason). If I show you something that's extremely complex, you will instantly like it regardless of the actual quality.

    Quote

Alco_Rs11 The hate it gets is well-deserved imho

No. People just hate Flarum for not being ProBoards. I get it, you're used to ProBoards and it's not easy to adapt to new things.

Akefu-Brewer except for the major inconveniences such as:
    -Constant refreshing, not live replies

It does have live replies. We use a service called Pusher to load posts in real time. If you have to constantly refresh to see new replies, then Pusher is failing to load on your browser for some reason.

Akefu-Brewer huge wall of stickies that i have to scroll down ON TOP of refreshing every time and on top of that pressing another button, all that struggle just to check for new posts.

Alco_Rs11 it lacks a number of features such as proper thread-stickying

Not really an issue with Flarum, it's just how the sticky feature is used here. Other communities using Flarum use the sticky feature way more conservatively than we do.

videogamesm12 a major caveat of this [modular and barebones] design is that once a certain extension stops being maintained and the API it relies upon has been rewritten

All major changes to the API are paused until Flarum 2.0:

videogamesm12 you can no longer use that extension on your forum when updating it without using an outdated version of the forum software or by using an alternative extension that may or may not be compatible with the existing data

Use your words. Simply requesting to update or make existing data compatible may actually be enough.

    Quote

videogamesm12 Worse yet, if there is no alternative you are basically shit out of luck and have to either strip out functionality from your forum

    Again, use your words.

    Quote

videogamesm12 or maintain a fork of the extension yourself.

Actually, this is a good thing because when you maintain forks of an abandoned extension. You are helping the Flarum community by providing others a feature that probably really want.

videogamesm12 in recent times modern design trends as a whole have seemingly taken a liking for making their designs look claustrophobic on monitors wider than 1280 pixels [and] There’s too much wasted space on the sides that could be put to better use

This is done to improve readability, research has shown that limiting the width makes it easier to read:

    Quote

The ideal line length for text layout is based on the physiology of the human eye… At normal reading distance the arc of the visual field is only a few inches – about the width of a well-designed column of text, or about 12 words per line. Research shows that reading slows and retention rates fall as line length begins to exceed the ideal width, because the reader then needs to use the muscles of the eye and neck to track from the end of one line to the beginning of the next line. If the eye must traverse great distances on the page, the reader is easily lost and must hunt for the beginning of the next line. Quantitative studies show that moderate line lengths significantly increase the legibility of text.

@'JagWire' The reason I shit on flarum, is because it literally lacks the basic function to call itself a forum

All forum softwares have these "basic" functions:

    1. Allow other users to add content called "posts"
    2. Organize those "posts" by idea.

Flarum does these exactly those two

    Quote

    @'JagWire' Everything is buggy

Like I said, every software has bugs. The OS you use, the browser you use... everything has bugs. Stop acting like you have never experienced a bug before.

    Quote

@'JagWire' The only reason we moved, and they only reason we are still here today is because of Seth [one of the reasons] he caused irreversible damage to the proboards forum and we can’t go back.

How do you damage a cloud-based forum software? What's really preventing you from going back?

People's expectations for Flarum on this server are too high, they want Flarum to be free of bugs and glitches. Unfortunately Flarum is software, and all softwares have bugs and/or glitches. Every single program you touch has it's own bugs.

When people on this server run into a problem with/related to the Flarum software, they complain like Flarum is the first thing that they want to destroy. I bet if the same problem happens on another software, you wouldn't care as much. You all have, like, some bias towards Flarum or something.

In my opinion, Flarum is an excellent software. I might actually deploy it for myself one day. However, the way that it's implemented here makes it look horrible.

@'Ryan' CPU utilization means nothing when you're hosting a Minecraft server. This is because Mojang thought it would be a great idea to make the Minecraft Server utilize only one processor thread. Your server could be lagging even at <1% CPU all because Mojang didn't utilize all the processor.

    Suggestion #1
Duplicate of this thread, I will vote there instead (if I do)

    Suggestion #2
Object, upgrading the server is not a substitute for unoptimized software. No matter how much you upgrade, you cannot be 100% immune from bad actors who intentionally lag and/or crash the server. Also, more memory does not necessary contribute to more performance. Benchmarks have shown that, unless you're constantly using like 80% or more RAM, there is little to no change in performance when you have more RAM.

    Suggestion #3
Object, I like the default skin. Simple, but that's why I like it. People should learn that just because something is more complex, it does not automatically mean that it's better. Themes can make it harder to use the forum because of how the theme is designed and can make certain elements harder to see. Software should be easy to use.

    Suggestion #4
Vouch, I like transparency, even if it's little things like this.

    Suggestion #5
Vouch, people shouldn't have to waste hours just to find a specific link that they want.

Alco_Rs11 flarum is very limited in customisations so this is not possible. The ideal solution would be to replace it with better software which could allow more customisation given how garbage flarum is in general.

If Ryan knew how to utilize Flarum's API, you will know the true power and the true customizability of Flarum. Plus, every single Flarum extension that exists is only possible thanks to its API because they're built on top of Flarum's API.

Earlier today, a user named @"BrandBox"#413 was banned from the forum without a clear reason why. This lead to him complaining to his friends in which they organized the raid. A lot of the users in that 3rd-party site calls TotalFreedom a "communist China" which lead me to believe that they're doing this to advocate for leniency of the TotalFreedom policies. However, what they're doing is the worst way to communicate their message.

If it's change you want, don't spam our platforms! The best way anything is changed here is by going to suggestions

Also @"Ryan"#1 why did you suspend BrandBox? People need to know why they're banned so they know not to do it again. (Stuff like this is why we really need that section for forum punishments)

People who are like "just use plots", NO! Plots are restrictive, they're only 100x100 blocks in size and you cannot merge them because OPs don't have plot merge permission. Guilds build in The End just for the End sky, you cannot get that sky in the Plotworld, even if you set your plot's biome to The End. For these reasons, this is why people don't use plots.

The purpose of this suggestion is so people like   batchest are aware of these bad actors that can potentally bypass their ban and wreck more havoc, especially with the fact they cannot appeal, their incentive to bypass is increased.

I'm against shaming people, I believe it's wrong to shame people regardless if the person getting shamed is banned, not banned, or banned without appeal.

Also   fleshly removing any names defeats the whole purpose of this suggestion. Even if it may lead to people getting shamed, I prefer bringing these bad actors to light.
