Since you haven't taken Red's or Video's offer in this thread, we haven't made any progress towards solving the mystery of what actually happened here, which seems to be the primary reason for the objections. You may appeal again in 30 days.

I am late to this thread, but I think you underestimate the size of a light-year. The average distance between stars in the Milky Way is about 5 light-years. At that scale, stars are already nothing more than glowing dust particles. The Milky Way itself has a diameter of about 150000 light-years. Although I'm sure you have fancy lore for this, I think it might be interesting to point out that any object of that size made of regular matter would instantly collapse into a black hole under its own weight, and it would be by far the largest the largest black hole known to mankind, too.

Initially, I was only going to make a minor change to account for the new community guidelines. However, I think now is as good a time as any to remove this question:

    6. Please provide the one IP that you will be using to login to the server. If you don't know it, visit ip4.me and cut and paste the result. All other IPs that you used to get indefinitely banned will remain indefinitely banned. Don't provide a VPN IP.

There have been some comments in the past about players being forced to reveal their IP this way, among other issues. IP addresses will still be included in indefinite bans, but all IPs associated with the account will be unbanned if an appeal is approved.

Isn't this tackling the symptom rather than the problem? It seems to me that you are saying that we shouldn't allow extended arguments in the server channels, not that we should have them and cleverly hide them.

simplynick   erin Strictly speaking, Admin Information is correct. On ProBoards, Admin Information actually had a subsection called Name Changes. We just can't have that here because that would be 3 layers of tags, and Flarum only supports 2. Of course, this only really starts to matter if we ever move away from Flarum.

erin admins are advised to post name changes here on occasion so people know who they are when they see a new username as an admin. but we don’t need to, and neither do ops.

This was definitely required for admins in the past. I guess it doesn't matter for security when the server is premium, but it could still prevent some confusion.

There is a difference between "Which version of Windows was the best?" and "Which version of Windows is the best?" You can't seriously use anything older than Windows 8.1 as a daily driver anymore because of all the hoops you have to jump through. People like Windows 10 because they use it every day and don't encounter major issues. Windows XP was excellent at the time, but it's not from this decade, and every time you see it in an embedded device nowadays, it shows.

I've made some small adjustments to account for the new community guidelines: https://forum.totalfreedom.me/…edom-community-guidelines. Note that I have explicitly not removed the references to the old conduct policy, now known as the guidance for sanctions, because that would make it extremely vague for which things you can file an indefinite ban request.

I think the main advantage of an open source variant is that you can host it yourself. Sure, most people don't care, but Discord doesn't have the greatest privacy policy, and there are a lot of organizations that would like to have the user-friendliness of Discord while remaining in complete control of the platform.

fleshly I'm fine with it as long as people don't start mocking serious statements, but that hasn't happened so far. You may notice that I don't really acknowledge it, and that's on purpose: I don't want to give people who are not in on the joke the impression that I'm somehow actually that full of myself.

iVacon The minimalist nature of Flarum means that there is no built-in 2FA support whatsoever. As far as I can tell, there is no Flarum plugin that adds support for FIDO, although there is one for OAuth.

I personally use the YubiKey 5 NFC because it has every possible feature that kind of device can have, so you don't have to manage separate things for FIDO, TOTP, PGP, etc.

Unfortunately the objections win out. As pointed out by others, including more detail in a future appeal may help your chances. You may appeal again in 30 days.

RedEastWood You need to be careful when comparing internal and external (portable) drives. Internal drives are connected via SATA or NVMe, which are in almost all cases capable of maxing out the performance of your drive, meaning that the difference between an HDD and an SSD is really noticeable.

External drives on the other hand are connected via USB, which is notorious for making it difficult to figure out how fast your connector can go. That means that if you happen to have a slightly older version of USB, which can happen even on brand new computers as a cost-saving measure, you might not see any difference between an HDD and an SSD, simply because the bottleneck wasn't the drive, but the connector. I can only recommend an external SSD if you are going to use it (1) with a fairly new high-end computer (2) over USB-C.

In terms of lifespan, modern SSDs are no less reliable than HDDs. The main difference is that SSDs wear out over time when you write data to them, while HDDs have physical moving parts that can break.

erin It has to do with exploits, although we should probably be checking if the measures are still necessary. However, even if we can use the vanilla /give, choice is good when it comes to these things, so there is no need to remove the Essentials version.

DragonSlayer2189 To be fair, Essentials is one of the plugins for which we are already maintaining a custom version.
