Over the past few weeks, applications and voting have been held for the Marketing Manager position. Although who was going to win the vote was not really a surprise anymore after the first 24 hours, there has been some good discussion in the voting thread about the marketing of the server.

With that said, I would like to welcome @"Tizz"#240 aboard as the new Executive Marketing Manager! His responsibilities will include bringing in new players, but also making sure that the server is represented well outside of this community.

Can you show the config files of the client(s) and server? I have to admit that it initially also took me over an hour of reading blog posts to figure out how WireGuard's config actually works despite the fact that there are less than 10 unique settings.

Edit: the problem has been solved. Telesphoreo was using https://github.com/angristan/wireguard-install, but one of the script's parameters did not match what was actually in the config file.

There is a full backup of the worlds, so as Alco points out, we can easily put the maps back. The question is whether the server will take them, because I am confident that the files concerned were never modified or deleted in the first place, so it was the server itself who decided that they were no longer valid.

Telesphoreo If you put in 10.10.10.5, you will always need a VPN to access it when you are not on your home network. If that's not what you want, you have the solution already, and you can forward port 443 if you are annoyed by having to enter :25252.

Telesphoreo The port problem can obviously be fixed by making the external port of the forward 443, but that does make your NAS very easy to find for malicious network scanners. What I meant is that you wouldn't need to use the NAS as a DNS server or add any records to Pi-hole if you put 10.10.10.5 in Namecheap instead of 70.37.246.22. However, you can't provision SSL certificates with that setup because the verification server can't find your NAS at a local IP.

You are making things very complicated by using the NAS as a DNS server. If you just add the DNS records for telesphoreo.me in the Namecheap control panel, you will be able to resolve them through Pi-hole. That works for local IP addresses as well, assuming you've made them static.

It is true that a lot of users here do not like Flarum, but that doesn't mean that there is no forum software that they would be happy with. Making something from scratch is typically reserved for when it turns out that there is nothing that meets your requirements, but we are definitely not at that point yet.

The last scheduled cleanup has been completed, and as expected, it was indeed much faster this time because the 4 worlds could be processed in parallel rather than one after the other. This run has saved another 40GB of disk space, which shows that this can be worth it even for smaller worlds.

As I said above, the flatlands world will need to be redone at some point, but I would prefer to postpone that so we don't have a big maintenance in the holiday period.

@'Ryan' I did not intentionally wipe the playerdata, nor did I expect it to be. However, I can see that the playerdata directory that previously had thousands of files in it has been emptied. I suspect that the server realized that we essentially went into the past by a few days by restoring the original world and decided to throw all playerdata out.

Next to this problem, Ryan has told me that cleaning up the CoreProtect database after having a temporary world is somewhat annoying. Combined with the fact that the worlds scheduled for today are much smaller than the previous ones and can be processed in parallel, it makes sense for the maintenance in a few hours to be an outage again, of course with the hope that it will be much shorter than the previous ones.

After multiple days of waiting, the script has finally finished its work on world "world". Because of an issue that needs some attention where CoreProtect was confused by the world being swapped out, the original world will be put back tonight (UTC) rather than right now. I've already put the before and after numbers in the first post: as you can see, it is in fact worth it if it gets the chance to complete.

Panther is the current Marketing Manager. However, his position has actually only been interim so far. In the interest of involving the community, the permanent Marketing Manager will be chosen by vote. Over the past 2 weeks, admins have been able to apply for the position, which has resulted in 2 applications.

This thread is for the voting part. Feel free to discuss the applicants in the replies. You can find the applications here:

You may be wondering if we're going to have another 8 hours of downtime when the next maintenance starts in a few hours. Fortunately, the answer is no, because Video suggested to me that we could simply replace the affected worlds with empty ones for the duration of the maintenance. That means players will not have their builds for a few hours, but that is much better than not having a server. Additionally, Folfy has updated the script with multithreading, which should speed up the process in general.

The world scheduled for maintenance in a few hours is still "world": it is true that the flatlands will need to be redone, but I am sticking to the original schedule for the sake of consistency.

An admin interested in the position has asked me for a deadline extension so that they have enough time to formulate a proper plan. Since we have an active interim Marketing Manager, I am not too concerned about the applications being delayed. That is why I am extending the application window by 2 days, so until December 5.
