Your name has quite a reputation attached to it. It seems that after all these years, a majority of users is willing to give you a chance to change that. Others understandably have strong reservations, so it is now up to you to prove them wrong. Unbanned.

To give an update on the replies above: Essentials was accidentally updated when the old version should have been kept. This made Essentials take over some commands that are normally handled by TotalFreedomMod. Because Essentials gives OPs all permissions by default, it became possible for regular players to ban each other, among other things. Reverting Essentials to the previous version solved all issues.

Yes, the title is correct: As of right now, you can use 1.17 blocks on the freedom server. This is sort of a surprise update after waiting for so long, but the reason for that is one we all know by now: The shortage of developers doesn't allow anyone to make an accurate prediction of when things will be ready. After this amount of time, it was probably better to get it over with than to wait even longer just to notify people. There are no resets associated with this update, so everything is exactly where you left it.

There is one logical question you may have after reading this announcement: Why are we updating to 1.17 when 1.18 is already out? I could make up a very deep and evasive answer to that, but the simple truth is that the 1.17 update took us so long that 1.18 was released in the meantime. The server will be updated to 1.18 in the future, but you can already join the server using that version right now because of the ViaVersion plugin.

As of yesterday, the original flatlands world is back in place, which means these maintenances are finally done. I didn't make an announcement when the switch back actually happened because I was asleep while Ryan made adjustments to the database so that CoreProtect would understand that there was a temporary world in place.

You may also have noticed the outage that happened during the maintenance. This was actually a coincidence: It was caused by the host server running out of disk space and would have happened without this maintenance too.

I meant to put this here earlier, but as https://status.atlas-media.co.uk/ has shown for a while now, the retry of the flatlands is scheduled for the 8th of January. As I said above, this was postponed to keep the holiday season free. Like for world "world", a temporary world will be put in place so that there should be no notable downtime.

Also, I haven't forgotten about the lost data, I will take a look at it after this (hopefully last) maintenance.

This has been open for a lot longer than I thought, sorry about that. I guess that's what the holiday season does to your perception of time. Unbanned.

As for how long these should be open: I don't like putting a hard deadline on them because there can sometimes be long-winded discussions that don't deserve to be cut short. I agree that it was a bit overkill in this instance.

Although Windows 11 has officially been out for months, I still consider people running it right now early adopters because of Microsoft's habit to fix a lot of bugs only after the official release. In other words, I expect Windows 11 to get better over time, whereas Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC will remain exactly as it is right now until it goes out of support. If you don't think you will ever care about new features that are being added to Windows, you can go to LTSC, otherwise you should stay with Windows 11.

@'r00t' We cannot share those kinds of links here. They are not difficult to find on Google.

I think it is important to put the North Shropshire result in context, because the controversy was fresh in people's minds when the election happened. Extrapolating results from a single electoral district is always risky, see for example Ohio in the 2020 United States presidential election.

@'FT ' I'm not sure what the achievements suggested in this thread would do, but we had user titles based on post count and metrics for likes and posts for many years on ProBoards. If anything, I would say the average post quality has slightly decreased since then, but I don't think those features have had any influence on that.
