So I'm curious on peoples thoughts (Especially @"redeastwood"#47 's). Looking at the stats, around 10% of the connections to the server are from a 1.8.* client, which got me thinking. Would that be a good version to create a Freedom server using.

I'm not sure how it would work, I suspect we'd use a current version of TFM but convert it to run 1.8 Minecraft rather than use an older version of TFM, but would be curious to hear peoples thoughts.

    Hi Everyone,

As part of the work to start getting ready for what is going to be one of the most complex upgrades to Minecraft in some time (1.17), we're going to be taking Bungee-02 (The main Bungee) offline for up to 1 hour tomorrow to install an update to Bungeecord, Server OS Patching as well as Bungee plugin updates to Plan and NetworkManager.

Our hope is that this should enable us to perform the in-server 1.17 upgrades without any issues / complexity (Or at least without taking the entire network down) and will allow us to start updating the servers one at a time to support 1.17 where we need to.

We are still having conversations internally as to if we want to use tools such as ViaVersions to support 1.17 temporarily, I suspect this may be something we look to do in the coming days depending on how complex and time consuming the upgrade is going to be.

I will update this thread when maintenance is complete.

    Thanks all.

Full Disclosure: We're on a trial right now, and I've no idea if this will keep working when it expires, but hey ho

I've changed the permissions around on Jira to allow public read-only access to the majority of the projects that we use day to day. Unfortunately due to some nonsense licensing rubbish I can't share the actual Kanban board, but it at least shows what we've identified as things we want to do, and should allow people to better see what we're working on, and get involved if they want.

In order to reduce duplicated effort, I would ask that anyone interested in picking up a ticket let the dev team know in the #public-discussion space on Discord so there's no duplication of work.

Folfy_Blue That's because I can't share the Jira board due to limitations in the permissions.

I do however regularly post in the #public-updates channel on Discord tickets for the upcoming release, and encourage people to let the dev team know if they want to work on tickets

I've generally taken the approach that features such as this unless start to break the server in some way, just end up as "Semi-Supported" in that we will not break them intentionally, but probably won't test / fix issues with them. I don't really see a reason to remove it for the sake of it...

videogamesm12 On a side note, the reason not much has changed is because nobody has stepped up and taken action on many of these issues. People talk about wanting things to change, but never actually set their foot down and work to have said change occur. People need to do that more.

There's also the issue that the thread mentioned was massive, and frankly difficult to have a sane discussion with so many things to look at so I think I had asked for folks to break it down into more suggestion threads that could actually be reviewed.

It's also worth everyone remembering we have hundreds now of tasks on the Dev team to look at, and actually very little capacity so far in terms of development team members that have capacity to do anything, so unfortunately we've had to just fix the most critical issues that we can with the limited people we have at the mo.

I'll take a look when I get home and will chat with @"Fleek"#188 to agree the best way forward for 1.17 support and if via versions is a good idea of if we want to just put the work into actually doing the update.

I'm going to retract my re-opening. It turns out because I had the tag not to show in the admin panel, the add-on doesn't show you the ability to hide it.

First off apologies that this took me so long to actually announce, things kept coming up which got in the way.

Please join me in congratulating @"elmon"#17 on being formally appointed to the role of EAO. Both applicants made a strong case and it was a tricky decision.

    Congratulations again.
