Flarum has been a piece of absolute dog shite since I had the misfortune of installing it when Seth deleted everything. They have over-promised and under-delivered, and there are a lot of better open source alternatives. People criticize it because it's a significant pain point for the community, as the forum here has historically been the centre of the community, and when it lacks basic functionality to enable a forum to be successful, it gets shit thrown at it.

I would never recommend Flarum to people, and would never willingly support it in the future after the pain of doing so here, it's entire architecture is backwards and it's been poorly engineered. It makes running a community with it's software more difficult than it should be, especially for "Modern" forum suites like it claims to be and to compete in.

Akefu-Brewer But it does introduce a significantly higher risk of supply chain attacks or other exploits being intentionally written into the software... I'm also honestly not a fan of the EsoTalk software for the same reason I dislike Flarum, the lack of overall structure and the fact that it's basically a glorified post-it note board rather than a proper forum suite. The point of getting rid of Flarum was to move back to something that actually supports the concept of boards and categories that we want, rather than "Tags" which are just annoying.

Akefu-Brewer We have looked at moving forum software, given the general lack of support for geteso outside of that community and the fact the creator of it is indef banned from most of our platforms, the longer term sustainability of such a move is questionable at best.

One of the things on the roadmap for next year will be to re-visit moving to a better piece of software to manage our forums, and one that is commercially supported rather than hand-cranked. We did a pilot of it earlier this year but dropped it for various reasons, the plan is to re-visit it next year when time permits.

Akefu-Brewer It looks as if Flarum chose not to include it in their base version, I've checked a few accounts that show to me as an admin as suspended, and when viewing it as someone who's not logged in, they don't show anything.

I suspect there might be an add-on, but Flarum also doesn't support giving reasons / details as to why someone is sanctioned / suspended from accessing the forums, just a "On / Off / Time Limit" set of options.

@'Ryan' I'll clarify this because I'm getting told they don't understand still, so let's try to explain it.

The user registers and creates a post with no formatting and is a huge wall of text. I spot some nsfw stuff and decide the post looks like spam. I check what else the user has posted and it's all low to no quality posts. My conclusion then is that it's an automated forum spam bot (we get them regularly) and indef ban the account.

Now rather than this user bothering to appeal, they took to planning raids (again) targeting the platform. It's quite clear having read through in full the original wall of text that they'd be at this point banned for violating the handful of rules we have and I'm pretty content that they wanted an excuse to throw their toys out of the pram and attack me and the community.

I don't really understand why these folks have an unhealthy obsession with tf or me, but I'd ask folks to ignore them and allow them the time and space to sort out whatever the fuck they've got going on in their heads.

@'FT ' these could be used in some way for the tab, join title, and motd, right?

This is the main reason for me originally forming a list. Folks will notice the in game tab message has been changing more often.

The motd less so but it can, it's just more work!

burger If i opened an reinstatement application that would be put on hold for more then a year I too wouldn’t continue to be active

It's only been put on hold because he continued to fail to meet any activity requirement.

From my memory he'd login for about 10 mins, come and re-instate or kick his reinstatement, and then vanish for months.

jwmphall No, this is the global setting. You can obviously sort of modify this for your plot, but this is about setting what the global "Sea Level" as it were would be. It's basically how many blocks from bedrock up should the roads be and therefore the default for plots.

And also no, there's no scope to customise the plugins here, we haven't got dev capacity and it's not really a pattern we want to adopt if we can help it, the point of this is to make less development not more :)

The most important thread of the century... We need to decide what block aesthetic we're going to use.

It's worth noting the plot server will start at 1.17.x so any 1.17 blocks are fair game to use. I'm happy to mix and match suggestions, so partial answers are okay as well.

    1 - The top layer
2 - The Walls outside your plot underground
3 - The "Filling" of your plot
    4 - The road surface
5 - Plot Border (One block for claimed, one for un-claimed)

Slightly specific one, but figure I may as well ask and get this right.

I've had a look at the config, and it looks like we currently use the "Default" plot height, which is 62 blocks tall, plus the grass topper (With the very bottom block being bedrock).

For the new plots server that I'm currently getting working, I've already removed the bedrock at the bottom, as I'm aware folks wanted not to be constrained by that, and I think we had some permissions issue.

My question to you all, is a height of 62 for "Ground level" reasonable? Would you like it higher, or lower or to stay exactly as is on defaults?

Feedback appreciated sooner rather than later!

There were two reasons it wasn't originally public.

The practical reason is that there's no real logical place for it to live without adding to the growing sticky threads everyone moans about already.

The other was that there are separate threads stating when someone has been added so the community can see (and these can age with time as normal) but the list lives in the admin sticky section so admins can be aware in case of bypassing and likewise in the event someone succeeded me as server owner (as Steven has).

I have no real issue with it being public, it just seemed like a duplication of already public data and would add to something people already complain about.

You failed time and time again to meet the activity requirement, as stated previously it should have been denied and you made to re-apply, but I think with changes in EAO and folks giving you the benefit of the doubt that got missed.
