Out of interest given you've gone Linux and it's a gaming laptop I take it you're not really running games on it? If that's the case is it just this is an older laptop because I'm surprised you'd intentionally buy a gaming laptop to install Linux on unkess you're doing Dev / similar.

    Needs further elaboration and detail...

What Custom items, how would they work, what would we do, how long do they last if not forever.

Like...? What would we add/ what would we change.

    And the general questions like

    • Why should we do this?
    • Do we think there are any players that actually would continue playing it long term
    • What makes it actually unique
    • What will attract players
    • What will keep players
    • How custom is it going to be
    • What plugins / types of plugins / functionality do we have.

Those are all things that need to be elaborated before I'll seriously consider this.

@'r00t' now make it so that everyone can refister

No, registration is intentionally disabled to preserve the member list at the point in time where it was attempted to be deleted. We won't be re-enabling registration.

videogamesm12 We literally had to spend a few days reinstalling this forum software at some point because the frontend somehow managed to kill itself

We haven't had to do that fwiw... It's been suggested but we haven't iirc.

videogamesm12 so in case something happens with Ryan, we aren’t utterly fucked

The difference now is I own and pay for the domain, so if something does happen to me, you've got bigger problems...

Can anyone provide some meaningful steps to re-produce the issue because I'm struggling to actually understand how this bug was discovered, likewise if there is a thread with that info on if someone could link me, it's entirely possible I've missed it.

The role of Discord Manager has changed quite a bit as we've evolved the role, so your original definition no longer really holds.

In short Nick as Discord Manager is responsible for the overall running of the Discord, and holds delegated ownership powers in much the same way Steven and Hooke do for their respective game-modes.

The chart in https://forum.totalfreedom.me/…gamemode-ownership-update hasn't been updated, but as far as I see it, Nick sits at the same level as Steven and Hooke, and oversees the Discord admin team, and the Discord mod team.

You're definition of a "Head Mod" heavily overlaps with the responsibilities that we have given to a "Discord Manager" with the difference being a lack of actual accountability. Nick is accountable to me, and if I'm un-happy with the way he's running things, he has to answer to me for that, likewise the administration and moderation teams are ultimately accountable to Nick for their actions.

You should I think on Windows see power usage / intensity in task manager. I would be having a look there to see if there's anything running.

But the reality is there's only so much you can do and so much you can squeeze it especially for laptops that weren't designed to have super long battery life.

Depending on the laptop I'd also suggest looking at external battery banks that can power it. I have one that I can plug my macbook into and while it won't actively charge the battery when there's anything more than an idle load, it does give me an extra hour or two when I need it the most.

Alco_Rs11 This announcement would result in the eventual adoption of flarum following Seth’s departure.

Afaik Seth was forced to adopt Flarum when people didn't like the mybb one and Telesphoreo created a shadow flarum forum to Boycott it. But we have been using flarum since Seth ran the server, and when he deleted things my view was that things should be re setup to match how he had everything before he rage quit.

I already plan to re pick up the work to get rid of flarum but frankly proboards is too restrictive and at this point we would have to start on a new proboards forum anyway because the old one really doesn't work as it should from an admin perspective.

I'll also point out a lot of the things on the thread you linked will be added to here in the new year as per the previously approved suggestions.

We would have already got rid of flarum but had to can the work due to lack of support for the direction of the server previously.

I'll let this play out but I am struggling to see any compelling reason that doesn't shoot us in the head long term.
