It'll be interesting to see what the security implications actually are of this and the accuracy difference ends up being.

Hopefully NCSC or similar will do some research and figure that out because it'll be interesting how secure this is.

I will say the under screen fingerprint reader is the big thing I missed moving from Android.

    So Status Update.

    Plots Server Launch

This is still being worked through as we speak, I'm currently hoping we will be in a position to launch some point in the next couple of months. The MB Team have been progressing with the spawn and other build requests, I just need to set some time out to get perms setup and tested, and then build the live server.

    Freedom Game-Mode Flatlands World Clean-Up

This activity was completed earlier this month, thanks for everyone for their cooperation and understanding with the outages to support this.

    Skyblock Reset & Network Integration

This is currently on hold pending the community feedback on suggestions to get rid of the game-mode, obviously there is no point in resetting and improving a game-mode if the community want rid.

    Flarum Upgrades & Re-Platform

The upgrade itself has been completed, we will be re-platforming the Forums in due course, no timeline currently planned.

    The 1.18.x Upgrade

I believe Paldiu has a plan in place to get us to the 1.18 version for the Freedom game-mode and we should start to see progress towards this very shortly. The Hub will be updated to 1.18 also shortly as will Plots, however we're looking to try to time this in such a way that we minimise the amount of time we are running any 1.17.x servers but only permitting 1.18 players, as that caused some contention previously.

    Panel Migration

We've not been making much active progress on this, the Skyblock server was the first due to be moved under the panel but that's on hold.

Depending on what the final outcome ends up being for the 1.18 game-mode upgrade we might bundle a re-platform of Freedom-01 into that at which point it will be moved under the panel, as we will look to move the server to a new VPS Platform as part of the panel migration, and that may make sense to do with 1.18, update will follow when we have news.

    Website Re-Design

Some time has been spent (I fancied doing some web design) doing some prototype work to make some improvements to the current landing page, though nothing serious has taken place. This will get picked up later, likely after March.

    Player Retention & Growth

I haven't currently got a real update, I need to follow up with Steven and Hooke on what specific activities have been undertaken in the game-modes to promote them.

    World Download Tool Improvements

The only "Improvements" has been making more items available (And no Tizz I'm afraid not Freedom-02 yet, I keep not quite getting to it, I will!) but there will be more improvements, likely around the spring / summer time now.

    Designing New Game-Modes

I've not been doing any work currently to design new game-modes, I plan to look at this when some of these other activities have been completed or at the very least are further through.

    Migration Off Of Flarum

I'm hoping to ramp up this activity later this year, but nothing will start here until the current forums are re-platformed later this year.

Migrate various aspect of the Freedom Game-Mode to Network Manager

Speaking to Paldiu the first phase of this I hope will land as part of the 1.18 update, which will start to enable some additional options for us. We've already made use of the command blocking functions in NetworkManager to start doing some more complex command blocking to block exploits without totally disabling functionality. I need to work with StevenNL2000 and Paldiu to form a rough roadmap on this area which will then be announced in due course.

lyicx if i had custom permissions, this would be a lot less of an issue. i think its something @Ryan has talked about there being a way around NM’s cockblock ages ago but i’ve not asked about it recently

There is. We can just turn off nm perms in your server if we want to and then you have to manage it entirely. It'll just be weird because tags and ranks pull from nm but perms will be shadowed locally.

videogamesm12 On the grounds that right now discord is a requirement to do basic admin functions with the server, it really should already be a requirement. I'm not sure how admins expect to do aspects of their job without it especially with the amount of discussion we have on there in admin channels that never makes it back here.

Unless we plan to force admins to replay their conversations on the admin section of the forums, we either need to make it a requirement or bar admins from using our discord for administration duties.

Tizz why is it still unplayable?

Because I haven't gotten around to actually doing the things needed… It needs to be re built on a new vm and linked to the panel with configuration re setup… It's not the end of the world to do, but something I haven't gotten around to yet…

Ivan We haven't got the community size or developer effort to make something brand new and unique come to reality. There's been plenty of ideas and there's a load of stuff I would love to do, but at this point the skyblock is a gamemode with minimal effort needed to make it viable again as a game mode, or just leaving things as they are.

Honestly I'm just sick of everyone here flip flopping in their views on here which isn't great…

I'll see what the consensus is and figure out from there if we will actually bother fixing this or if we just add this to the list of tried and failed ways to make tf a server with some sort of actual player base.

Luke I never said it was 100% community fault, but it played a pretty significant part of the cause of death here.

Merging frankly was a last ditch attempt to try to do something a bit different to improve our player base and to have a game mode that was actually sustainable and able to be maintained with a greater level of ease.

Ivan I wasn't the one that went out my way to attack and harras players.

I at no point said I or anyone else involved was perfect but frankly at this point I am not fussed either way if we keep it or not, the current plan has been to improve and revamp it but yeah if people don't want it then I'm more than happy to put it out its misery and we can keep doing the same old shit we have been trying and failing for years.

fleshly why did we even approve of a skyblocks gamemode in the first place

Because before we took it over and bought into be part of TF it was more popular than our own freedom game mode. The hope was by bringing an existing player base to our community we stood half a chance of growing the freedom game mode as well as the skyblock one.

Unfortunately enough toxic folks from this community went out of their way to make the skyblock game mode a poor experience and harrased some existing members and from there it slowly died.

Tizz It mustn’t be too hard extracting those and importing them in a new db format.

It's not exactly trivial… The reason the old data was kept is because people didn't want a total reset of guilds data. Editing the data isn't super trivial and added extra complexity. The database itself isn't really the issue anymore (it could be better but it's not too bad).

My view is if we re do tf guilds again it needs to be architected in a very different way to serve a very different purpose.

The issue boiled down to the way the current backup service for the host works with larger disk sizes, freedom 1 is by far the largest single vm on the server.

It's not just the freedom server that ran into issues as a result of this and we've made changes to the underlying infrastructure and backup service to ensure this doesn't happen again.

The reality is that for 99% of scenarios the only time we want to restore from backup is in a full disaster scenario. Any other situation generally boils down to a situation we should have manually backed up before those specific files or the entire vm anyway.

    Maintenance has been completed.

As part of this some suggestions were also completed, one being to add the Thread preview extension, so there's now a rich text toggle (Seems to be enabled by default so you'll now see your post without the need to preview it. It's a bit buggy but it's better than it was). Some new functionality like spoilers and some other formatting needs the right text editor disabled.

    Quote

!A nice new spoiler for example!<

We've also added the super sticky add-on and made it so all threads that were previously stickied are now only tag stickied with the exception of 3 threads that are "Super Sticky" and display globally, all be it actually in a much better format anyway. This will mean it'll mimic a bit more of the behaviour we saw on alternate forum software solutions.

Finally the markdown tables have also been added, and combined with the Rich text edit view, makes adding tables to post substantially easier than before.
