Before you apply to be an admin, you must review this checklist to ensure you're qualified to apply and that you understand the requirements for being an admin. If you ignore this pre-application checklist and apply even though you're clearly ineligible, your application will be denied and if you spam applications (see para 16), you'll be subject to forum sanctions.

    1. If you were a former Total Freedom admin, stop and fill out this application instead: https://forum.totalfreedom.me/…n-re-instatement-template

    2. You must memorize the server community guidelines at: https://forum.totalfreedom.me/…edom-community-guidelines

    3. Your forum account must be a minimum of 1 Calendar Month old prior to you making your application, and it is recommended that this profile is customised with an avatar.

    4. In order to apply for administrator status, we encourage at least 1 Admin or Senior admin recommendation, however the recommendation is ultimately optional. If you have no recommendations, you can post a message in Admin Information asking for a recommendation via PM but you may only post such a request once per month, and do not PM requests to admins asking for recommendations. If you're unable to get a recommendation, we recommend you attempt to be more helpful. If you ask an admin how to apply for admin and they tell you how, that is NOT a recommendation or a direction to apply.

Note 1: If during the application process, the recommending admin loses status, the recommendation will normally still count provided the recommending admin didn't lose status for misconduct. The executive admin will make the final determination for each case that arises.

    1. In becoming an admin and a rule enforcer, you are at increased risk of DDOS/DOX and hacking by griefers who might not appreciate you enforcing the rules. For more info about DDOS, see http://www.totalfreedom.boards…-blocking-skype-resolvers and if you don't know what DDOS is, please view http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhA9PAfkJ10 and for DOX, view http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhwY7YgcQ9o. As an admin, you must be more vigilant when it comes to computer security. Ensure all your account passwords (Minecraft, Forum, Email, etc.) are strong and NEVER use the same password for any given account. Ensure your PC/Mac has been thoroughly secured and cleaned of any malware and be extremely cautious when clicking on links that you might get in email, Skype, etc. If you do get hacked, you'll be responsible to notify us and take proper security steps to overcome it. If you don't wish to accept the security risk or are not capable/willing to practice high levels of security, you should not apply. Please review https://forum.totalfreedom.me/…-and-restoral-15-jan-2021

    2. The privileges of being an admin are assigned to both your Minecraft account name and the connection that you to access the Internet (your IP address) along with forum account confirmation. If you allow others to use your Minecraft account, forum account, or you use a public VPN, hotspot or proxy, or there are others (e.g. family members) that might use your Internet connection, you will be suspended and likely banned if your Minecraft account or IPs are used to violate server/forum conduct rules or abuse admin privileges. Excuses such as my bro or sis did it won't be accepted.

    3. You must handle being an admin without it negatively affecting your school grades, your employment, your family, and your mental or physical health, etc.

    4. Admins are held to a higher standard of conduct than OPs, and notably includes conduct off-server as well on-server. For example, please review https://forum.totalfreedom.me/…t-outside-of-totalfreedom

    5. Do NOT include any personal information such as real names, addresses (physical or e-mail), telephone numbers, age, and so forth in your application.

    6. If you file an application with false information or copy somebody else's application, you'll be subject to forum sanctions, as well as an additional waiting period of at least 45 days.

    7. DO NOT post any comment messages to your application until after the application is approved or disapproved. If an admin asks you a direct question, you should reply. If an admin objects and give reasons that you believe are incorrect, you may reply to state why you believe the reasons are incorrect and nothing more; do not rage or get dramatic - just state facts. Please note that admin applications last 2 weeks.

    8. Ensure you answer the application in English and try to use the best possible grammar minus slang and profanity.

    9. The time until you can post an application depends on the reason you were denied. You will be told when you can apply again.

      1. Not meet the requirements - 15 days.
        1. Not being deemed qualified - 30 days.
        2. Having lied on your application - minimum 45 days.
        3. Having plagiarised your application - minimum 90 days.

The latter two will be at the Admin Officer's discretion and may change depending on what was lied about/copied.

    10. You are now ready to fill out the application per the template at https://forum.totalfreedom.me/…dmin-application-template

If there are any questions about the requirements or rules please do not hesitate to ask the Executive Admin officer

Note - This is the original advise that was posted on the Proboards forums some time ago. I am FULLY aware that a lot of this advice is no longer best practice and will be updating it shortly and would encourage any thoughts in the comments as well!

    1. Ensure your PC/Mac is running anti-virus software and that the virus definitions are updated. Windows includes a free anti-virus package called Windows Defender and Apple provides very limited protection based on a lower risk profile however you can get a free Mac AV application such as Avira. You should strongly consider installing a free app by the name of Malwarebytes that can run in conjunction with your current AV software to check for additional malware that might of escaped detection from your primary AV software.

    2. Ensure your mobile phones and tablets are secure as well. For Android devices, you can install AV software as you would with a PC and the aforementioned Malawarebytes is available as well. For iPhones, you’re reliant on Apple’s walled garden for security however check the iPhone (or iPad) for any unknown profiles that you might have inadvertently downloaded and installed (Settings - General - Profies or Profiles & Device Management); if using an iPhone provided by your company, there might be an Enterprise profile; don’t remove that.

    3. Ensure your passwords are strong and change them as necessary. A strong password is one that can’t be readily ‘cracked’ - use a site like https://password.kaspersky.com to test the type of passwords you use and fast they can be cracked. If you have too many accounts and don’t want to keep track of all the various passwords, use a password manager. If using a PC, Lastpass is considered one of the best and in the Apple/Mac/iPhone world, 1Password is highly rated but both are cross-platform however. In either case, you must ensure you pick a master password that can’t be readily cracked or all your passwords could be compromised. If your passwords are weak or you use the same password for all sites, change them immediately, especially the passwords for Minecraft/Mojang, Forum (Proboards), Multiplay (if you have Clanforge), Twitter, Skype, Google, Facebook and especially Tapatalk if you use it to access all your forums including TF. NEVER use the same password for different accounts

    4. Use two-factor authentication for services that offer it such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, etc. An app called Authy can make it easer to use and includes tutorials - see https://www.authy.com/app/mobile/

    5. At home, ensure your router/WiFi passwords are strong just the same as your online account passwords; you don’t want all your neighbor or drive-by hacker on your network.

    6. On the road, avoid use of open public WiFi or if you must use it, consider using a VPN service that will fully secure your connection between your device and the VPN host. A service such as ExpressVPN is one of many. Do not use VPN services for nefarious activities as these services do not make you anonymous; they only secure your connection between your device and the VPN service provider. If you must use open WiFi without VPN, avoid doing any sensitive activities such as banking.

    7. When reviewing emails or using Skype and files are sent to you for download, ensure you trust who sent it and scan the files for malware as noted above; files can also be surreptitiously downloaded in the course of web surfing.

    8. If you do get breached, run the checklist again from step 1.

NOTE: When filling out the email address on your forum profile, avoid using an address that's used for your mojang, forum, skype, etc. It's possible for anybody to view that email address and than potentially try to hack it.

Additional suggestions can reviewed in the replies (feel free to contribute)

I believe the rules are already fairly clear, and as none of our channels are marked for NSFW / Adult content, it would be a breach of discord T&C's for anyone to post anything deemed NSFW and I would expect the discord mod's to delete such content (Ticking the button to report it to discord) and ban the individual from the discord under section 1.A and 2.C of the Discord conduct policy.

With all of the following, if approved they're subject to the introduction of them to the server not causing any issues, and if significant dev effort is required then further discussion and re-review will be required.

    FS-100 Raised to add.

FS-101 raised to do an impact assessment and work out what the work will be required. If this does end up getting added we will then probably remove Movecraft if that does clash but I'm hoping the impact assessment should highlight that.

    FS-102 raised to add.

If for no other reason than I think this would be funny as fuck with the old CJFreedom Stadium map then this is certainly approved.

    FS-104 raised to add.

It doesn't look like this properly works on the current versions of Minecraft, so will decline this specific plugin for now, but happy for it to be re-suggested in a separate thread in the future once it works on 1.16.4 properly.

    Quote

Approved. FS-105 raised to add it.

Going to decline this, if you want to build in a totally protected area you should use plot world. Otherwise you should accept the risk that your build might be tampered with / accessed while you're offline, and while we'll always try to roll that back, the plot world is the only place we guarantee any level of safety over your builds.

The only changes that will be made to Flarum will be for patching / stability and those which are critical to it's ongoing operation. Flarum for TF is being sunsetted so this will be declined. Would suggest it be something you raise when we do start moving forums.

I've approved a version of this.

    The approved version is:

When someone is spamming chat, the server should now mute them for 2mins rather than kick them.

I'd also like it if possible to double the time muted every time it happens within the server rebooting.

FS-97 raised with that as the description.

So I think for admins fionn has already done some work around overhauling this, and it doesn't require any polling.

Executive polling has also since been removed.

For other votes that we do (Things like forum staff / similar) will generally speaking only ever appoint a single person or if not it'd be the top X people on the poll anyway.

There have been some other discussions around how polling works technically, and a lot of that should be fixed when we eventually shift over to the new forums. Until then I'll lock this as I don't think there is going to be anything further that can / should be changed.

Moving away for FPTP in the longer term is probably something I'll look to do, subject to the polling plugin allowing multiple choices.

@Ivan#4249 In permanent ban requests, there could be content that would allow an OP to see methods to crash the server, IPs (even though they are public information, many OPs value their privacy and would prefer their IP to stay private), and more. It also isn't someone's business to know why an OP got punished - that should be an admin only matter.

So I agree with permban requests, but I'm hoping we can come up with a better way generally of handling them, where there's a slightly more structured way of actually raising them, and where specific details like IP's and evidence can be restricted, while the notice itself can still be visible to the general public. I need to think that through a bit, and I've added FOR-3 to our Jira to investigate a good way to do that.

    Quote

@Ivan#4249 OPs shouldn't have access to Senior Admin applications - I believe the entire reason for making them publicly accessible was since there were other categories that were being made public, this became public as well. Senior Admin should be voted for by experienced players on the server, and you cannot trust the integrity of an OP. Admins are experienced and that was how Senior Admin Applications started to begin with.

I don't really have any issue with this, I'm keen to encourage everyone having the ability to have their say on all applications, like with suggestions and others. That said, I'm also not super chuffed with our current points based system, and my view is that I'd like to entirely remove vouches and objects, and go to a place where your recommendation means you're putting your balls on the block for that individual, and if they fuck up it will come back to bite you to. Then the content of the threads should be used for meaningful discussion around the candidate, and for things like evidence of them being good / bad and anything else that should help influence the decision of the EAO and the EAO Team.

I'm not going to do anything with this thread yet as I'm keen for more thoughts, and would be interested on peoples views.

So regions aren't something that OP's generally will have anyway, it's intended as I see it more for things like spawn. If you want to be able to build and control access then head to the plots world. The region you reference here specifically is one that has caused a lot of issues due to it in reality protecting additional builds that are nothing to do with you which has caused a lot of issues... In short no, we won't allow OP's to manage their own regions, that's what the plots are designed to accommodate.

Sounds sane. FS-95 raised to either store this persistently or set it so that it defaults players to off rather than on during a re-start / similar.

Happy for someone like James to go and move the end-spawn and put something that's protected (Like we do in the flatlands) to stop people building right next to the world spawn, but otherwise we're not going to go and delete player builds regardless of what people believe the artistic skill of the creator is ;)

I'm going to decline this one for the time being. We have plenty of admins and the real issue is not that we don't have enough admins, it's that a lot sit in server chat talking when the server has crashed and said it went offline... This is a staff and doing their job problem, not a technical one for once.

@videogamesm12#4015 Fix /near - This command was broken ages ago and I'm guessing someone botched the implementation of making it hide vanished admins.

This has been picked up as a bug under FS-43

    Quote

@videogamesm12#4015 Brush and similar commands should be allowed. They are logged by CoreProtect, but it takes a long ass time due to how CoreProtect handles queues. If we were to replace CoreProtect with something like Prism, I'm sure this would be resolved.

I agree, FS-87 raised to validate everything is logged as expected and re-enable them if it is.

    Quote

@videogamesm12#4015 Fix and bring back /getpos - This command is an extremely useful tool for determining your location. The command for some reason does not include worlds anymore, which should be corrected. "You can just use F3" is not a good excuse for restricting features like this. There are ways to prevent people from getting other players' coordinates that don't involve blocking commands.

Given I think we still maintain a custom versions of Essentials I'll suggest we either modify that to re-allow this without players looking up other players, or to implement something from scratch to replicate the functionality. FS-88 raised to do this.

    Quote

@videogamesm12#4015 Allow sand and concrete powder to be used in WorldEdit - I understand that these are gravity-related blocks, but surely there's a better way of dealing with blocks like that that don't involve blocking it, like disabling gravity.

Agree, we've talked a few times about disabling gravity but I don't think I've raised tickets before to do it.

    FS-89 raised to disable gravity.

Once that's done / if it's possible then FS-90 is raised to re-allow Sand, Concrete and any other blocks that have historically been blocked due to gravity concerns.

    Quote

@videogamesm12#4015 Allow ops to use //fixwater and //fixlava - This command is likely a leftover from when we still blocked water and lava placement. As this is no longer the case, I believe it's appropriate to allow ops to use it.

Agreed, FS-91 raised to do this.

    Quote

@videogamesm12#4015 Allow ops to drop items - This was disabled in fear that it could cause lag issues and be used for exploits. Is there not a better way to mitigate this issue (like moving all items into stacks or using some sort of plugin that allows admins to clear ops' NBT)?

Think this has been picked up on another thread, if not please shout.

    Quote

@videogamesm12#4015 Consider our options for AsyncWorldEdit - This plugin is incredibly problematic. It's slow, inconsistent, and overall more of a pain in the ass than just regular WorldEdit. However, it's true that without this plugin the server would be much more worse-off than with it. Perhaps we should look into tweaking the plugin in such a way that it performs much better than currently.

This is a fairly large change and something we've discussed on some other threads. In the shorter term I've raised FS-92 to re-review the config and see if we can better tune the plugin to increase the performance.

    Quote

@videogamesm12#4015 Fix the permissions issue with WorldEdit - For some reason new players have to relog in order to be able to use WorldEdit. Perhaps we should look into why this is the case and fix it.

    FS-93 raised to investigate.

    Quote

@videogamesm12#4015 Consider bringing back VoxelSniper - This was an incredibly helpful plugin when it was used properly. However, for some reason it was able to pull off some serious grief without being traceable. It was also extremely easily abused and even worse, had problems with permissions that basically make it uncontrollable. Perhaps we should look into a more professional implementation of getting VoxelSniper to work with CoreProtect (or Prism)'s logging and TFM's permissions. We'll have to do extensive testing to make sure it behaves properly.

This one I'm not so sure about, but I think it would be worth putting some dev and sys-admin time into doing a proper impact assessment and working out if we can do this and what the implications of doing so would be, and ultimately how much work it's going to take to do it properly... I've raised FS-94 to do this.
