Think it was the Spring / Summer of 2012.

As I'm sure a lot of people will have noticed, there have been a few short blips in the servers performance and stability today, this was a result of upstream network issues and ultimately an unexpected impact to config changes that were being made on the underlying host which for a short period resulted in no network access to the host.
The incident is on https://status.atlas-media.co.uk/incidents/yUUmeL2O2D8N and I'm not expecting any further issues now.
Apologies for any inconvenience.

I can change that number on the fly in config, I set it to 300 because it seemed like a decent number.
I absolutely hate the whole N + 1 setup for slots, it looks absolute nonsense and when you have low player numbers on it just makes it look like there is only room for 1 or 2 players, which just is stupid.
I can drop the number down for now to something like 50 or something like that? I don't know what peoples views are on it but happy to reduce it down if that's the concern, or can increase it to something much much higher if people want...
We don't need another plugin to do that though.

@redeastwood#10001 The entire network would have to be re-worked from scratch... Would effectively be starting from Day 0 again.

I'll write a proper post later but tf won't be going cracked. The actual benefit is negligible at best and is at this point just going to encourage spam and bot accounts.
-
My issue was only ever that shitty metro start screen that some brain dead Microsoft designer so felt deserved a place on server 2012. Other than that it was a decent os from memory.

@Ashaz#9859 No. It needs to be time based or we keep everything. It's already going to be very complex to query out the data that we care about beyond 90 days, adding complications of then trying to geofence is going to be just too complex for such little gain...

@UnderTails#9847
@Ashaz#9849
Let me clarify, I'm only talking about selectively wiping the old CoreProtect data and leaving the maps intact.
-
@UnderTails#9842 The suggestion is you'd just loose CoreProtect history that is older than 90 days. Which I don't really like, but feels like the right thing to do here.
-
Given the size of the dB itself seems to be growing constantly, and the rate of growth is only increasing, I'm going to look at the following as a strategy going forward.
We will hold a minimum of 90 days of CoreProtect data for Freedom-01, and on a regular basis we will archive out anything that is older than 90 days, and store it in an appropriate repo, though it will not be available for the general public to download. 90 days feels like a long enough period to retain live data for, and in the highly unlikely event we need data which is older than 90 days, we can re-play it back in if required.
It'll need some time on my part to get that to work properly, as CoreProtect's only option is to just delete it which I don't really like as an option, but this might prevent the need to actually wipe the worlds, and while I still think CoreProtect is a shit design if it can't hold older data in a sane way, I think this should be an okay option without straying too far from my belief that CoreProtect should always hold the full history as a golden source of truth.

@Miwojedk#9825 It's less so important that other game modes increase in their player counts, as long as overall we're seeing an increase in players. I've always been of the view that I'd rather have players playing on the TF Network somewhere than on someone else's servers. If that means we end up with two fairly isolated player bases in game with the overlap being the forums and discord, I don't think that's too bad of a thing, as let's be honest, the forums and discord (In more recent history discord at least) have been what makes the majority of the community anyway.

@StevenNL2000#9820 I think I just lazily copied what we had used for SMP, but yes, that's probably a more accurate title. I'll also make sure the same is updated for SMP, as I think we used the same titles there.
-
@StevenNL2000#9818 It's to be setup in much the same way as SMP, Red will look after the day-to-day stuff, but myself or someone I delegate from ATLAS will ultimately have final say on matters with it being a part of the TF Brand / Name.

To update on this, while the initial restrictions to combat a surge in posts originating from individuals who either were or were claiming to be Nathanial have now been lifted, we've decided to keep some of the restrictions as part of vetting new members to the community in place, and there will continue to be some level of initial post approvals in place, as is common with most online forum platforms.
While the exact number of posts & threads that will need to be approved will likely change over time and in response to known threats against the platform, we've not found any major issues with enforcing a handful of posts / threads be moderated for new members of the community, and while I do appreciate it's not ideal it's what happens when individuals decide to go off trolling like this.
To avoid individuals creating these sorts of spam accounts and keeping them in their back pocket, as I say the number of moderated posts will vary in response to threats, and we won't going forward publish the number of posts or threads that are required to be moderated.

@Miwojedk#9735 But that's what I'm saying... If "Redstone working" is what's missing from the Flatlands world, it won't be any better with a "New" World...
-
@Miwojedk#9733 that's a server wide toggle admins manage. It is disabled on occasion to prevent lag machines and help trace them down, not sure this would solve that issue..?
-
@Shdwo#9702 Yeah that was my point, it's if we want to find a way to allow admins to actually see OP's (Like an outline or something) or not that's the question for me, as showing in tab is very different to seeing them IG
-
@Ashaz#9684 I've never seen them actually show in player form. Only on the tab.
-
@Panther#9682 Admin's can't see other vanished admins though? Or am I mis-remembering...
-
So my thoughts are this feels like a better solution to playing a game of wack a mole on disguises, which is probably even more annoying.
I'd like us to look at blocking the non standard blocks from disguise and look at ideas for how we can give ops the ability to vanish but ideally find a good way for admins to see them, though even then given we have core protect and command spy, I'm not sure it's that important we see ops anyway?
