@Telesphoreo#13579 exactly how it's going to work is tbc, I've tried to break it down in the stages I'm expecting it to fall into, though I'm hopping it'll all be automated and scripted by the point we're doing the real thing.

So I've been trying to get around to writing up this plan for a little while now, and unfortunately my internet dropped a few times so I had given up, apologies this has taken so long to write up.

This is my current plan for how we start to move away from Flarum and on to something that is going to better fit the servers needs especially as we're now growing into other games and game modes, and that for me is a key area of strategic growth for us going forward.

    Phase 1 - Technical Preview

The first phase of the new forums will be what I'm calling a technical preview, this will be a developer environment effectively where we will allow members of the community to create accounts and ultimately have a bit of an explore of the software. This is more to focus around the software itself and the infrastructure we're going to need, but should help us flesh out any considerations that we need to make.

Around this time we will create a new section on these forums to include suggestions, bug reporting and other discussion around the new forums, this will help guide us in creating the best possible experience down the road.

Phase 2 - Small Migration Testing

During phase 2 the intent will be to look to migrate a small section over from Flarum to the new forums to prove the migration is possible and how technically complex it is going to be, part of this may require the development of bespoke tools / scripts as moving off of Flarum isn't something a lot of people seem to have done before.

We wouldn't have moved anything over permanently, just tested to see if it is possible and how practical it is.

Phase 3 - Full Beta Testing

During phase 3 the forum instance used in Phase 1 and 2 will be destroyed and a new beta forum provisioned. During this time we will stand up the structure we would expect the final new forums to look like, with all the groups, roles and similar configured. This would let folks properly start to use the forums and get a feel for it, while helping us to make sure everything is right for go-live.

Phase 4 - Full Data Migration Testing

As an extension to Phase 3, once we're happy with everything in Phase 3 we will then move all of the current content over as a snapshot in time, while still maintaining the Flarum forums as our primary forum. It's likely we would delete a lot of the content / re-create the forums to the setup as in Phase 3 for this.

    Phase 5 - Go-Live

Phase 5 will result in us destroying the beta forums, and standing up a new forums and performing the full data migration. From this point on our new forums will replace the Flarum forums, and Flarum will then be archived off and decommissioned.

Hopefully that gives a bit of a better idea of where we're going. I'm hoping to get the initial technical preview for Phase 1 available in the next week so people can start to see the direction we're moving in here. There are some dependencies with other work I have ongoing so how fast this moves I'm not too sure yet.

For transparency purposes I have invited the current development team to apply for the position of Executive Lead Developer as it's a position that has sat vacant for some time.

An announcement should happen in the next 2 or so weeks with a new ELD who will be looking after the team and helping to do some of the work I've been doing around keeping the server up to date.

I'm going to open this to Senior admins first, and possibly then extend this to standard admins as well.

The position for Executive Server Liaison (ESL) is now vacant and I'm looking to find someone suitable to step up to take on the position.

The role in short is around player engagement, retention and advertising along with working with our associated servers.

There is no formal application for this, I'm keen to let people reply to the thread and give me a bit of an idea as to why they feel they are best fit for doing this role going forward.

In 72 hours I'll consider if I want to open this to admins as well, and no longer than 1 week after that applications will close.

To update folks, I have come to a partial decision on this matter, and that is that Darth is to be removed with immediate effect from his executive position and discord moderator position. His admin rank and standings will be down to the EAO Team to conclude their own investigation into the behaviour.

The reason for the discord moderator removal is due to the evidence that was provided to me where it was suggested that pulling off scams against large companies is acceptable, something which I don't feel is appropriate behaviour for a member of my discord mod team joke or otherwise.

The executive removal is in part as a result of the previously mentioned evidence, along with other evidence which has been bought to my attention around the mis-handling of previous incidents of staff working under him, and attempting to harm the character and reputation of other admins in an effort to hide the mis-management, this combined with a lack of overall player base increase / stability has resulted in my drawing of this conclusion.

The admin status decision will fall to fionn and his team and the formal suspension will be decided by them. This temporary suspension will be in place until the EAO team have come to their own formal conclusion.

For clarity, the creation of these fake announcements IS NOT against the rules in themselves. I am more than happy for people to take the piss and do these, I don't see it being a major issue if I'm perfectly honest.

The only rules that I see applying here is 1.E

    Quote

    e. Framing any (ex)member of TotalFreedom.

    And 2.B

    Quote

    b. Tricking players into breaking a rule.

If the messages do not breach either of those rules, they should be permitted as they always have been. The original rule of "No you can't make these at all" in my mind is rubbish and is just there to create easy sanctions rather than anything else...

Please apply common sense though folks, that's the bottom line here.

Just fwiw the new plug-ins and plug-ins updates have been on my radar. I had started working through the various plug-ins to get them up to date and this is obviously one of the ones we had identified.

I'll look at the original suggestion I made for this, but seem to recall it getting declined for some reason. Will see if there was a good reason or not.

@Telesphoreo#12931 no ticket has been raised because the suggestion hasn't yet been approved or rejected. Your sarcasm is noted.

And the essentials commands will be blocked / removed shortly as the nm messaging system is all that should be being used.

I have had to moderate a number of posts on here which have crossed the forum guidelines.

I don't like deleting discussion, but if it continues I will have to take a firmer stance and close the thread down.

Follow the forum guidelines and don't make personal attacks on other people, it's not acceptable here.
