Bending also disables your fly mode—even if you're in creative—if someone uses something near you for some reason.

@StevenNL2000#12610 "it turns out the correct range was actually [that corresponding to 87.64.0.0/14]"...but how do we know it's a /14?

where's the cyan square lol

Note that this can be (and has been) problematic in specific cases where it's uncertain if someone has already been banned and banning them again would have unintentional rollback-related consequences. (Oops, Tizz91...)

Vouch: you have put a lot of dedication into the server and, with a lot of people previously (and currently?) being particularly hostile towards you, I find it particularly difficult to take the permbans and other sanctions too seriously as a measure of your past actions here (if they should have any weight at all), especially as they were all fairly long ago (I didn't rejoin early enough to see any of them).
A lot can change in 3 or 6 months (especially in the age range that "student" implies): while I was inactive for over a year from Total Freedom (until December 2020, solely because I thought that I had posted an inactivity notice with a misguided reason—I hadn't posted one at all—and that showing up again would raise questions—it didn't), the first 3 months of that inactivity saw most of the changes that changed my previous usernames and stuff from "just, like, the past" to "deeply embarrassing every time someone brings it up seriously please don't" cf. videogamesm12.

Vouch despite the nonuse of the template (perhaps they didn't realize one existed); this is from when Seth was still owner (~> old), I'm not sure how this was a permban offense anyway (surely command blocks wouldn't have actually worked and so wouldn't be subject to such harsh sanctions for doing it like twice?), and their activity on SMP—such as screenshotting Ger3tto and DMing it to me on Discord—suggests a genuine intent to follow the rules.

- Yes: ideally install AV software, though it should be less necessary than in the past if you do the other steps properly. Note that a lot of "antivirus" software in 2021 unfortunately acts very much like the malware it's supposed to prevent—in other words, don't get Avast or McAfee.
- I can't exactly say much about these.
- Yes—note that password reuse has been the more dominant issue for a long time, to the point that the stereotypical "your password must have 8 to 16 characters, a number, a lowercase letter, an uppercase letter, a symbol, a Greek letter, a symbol, a Chinese character, and an emoji and can't have any word in the Scrabble dictionary like 'qi' or 'euouae'" is definitely* doing more harm than it's worth nowadays.
- Definitely do this; Discord has an option to disable some administrative actions on your server from people whose accounts have 2FA turned off.
- Also mostly outdated (at least if you live in an area with like one house every 100 metres), but it doesn't really hurt to do.
- Mostly outdated. While VPNs encrypt your connection to internet services so your ISP or anyone pulling a man-in-the-middle attack can't see its contents, they aren't unique in doing so. All of these other things use the same "military-grade" encryption nowadays: every website with a padlock in the browser (https), every iPhone app since 2016, every Android app since 2018, even Minecraft multiplayer (but not telnet). This means that, even if you don't use a VPN, your ISP can only see the https://volleo6144.net/ part of https://volleo6144.net/v/rb4rr. There may be good reasons to hide this: perhaps even that part gives something away to your ISP that you might not want, but then you're just moving the problem: your ISP can't see the site, but now the VPN company can, and you still just have to trust them.
- Definitely. Also remember that sketchy websites are sketchy.
- Also definitely.
- Use an ad blocker (uBlock Origin with Firefox was my choice when I first wrote this post; it also removes most anti-adblock scripts). One of the most common ways that malware is delivered nowadays, especially to the kinds of people that properly do the other things here, is through legitimate ad networks that don't properly screen their ads, so never turn it off.
*yes, I know that those are also used in Japanese and for special purposes in Korea and Vietnam, but I don't care right now, as clarity trumps technical correctness here and I don't have a better name for it

Object, for the same reason as all the prior objections: it's already in the conduct policy as section 3j. Maybe we could promote it to a section 2 offense or something (which may or may not satisfy @Panther#4742's concern), but having it be separate from the standard conduct policy while still being, like, a rule ... creates confusion and also potentially leads to people cancelling other people over innocuous (based on context) uses of words that are used as euphemisms for those groups.
...and this isn't even considering the potential for people making slurs more as a result of this separation, which wouldn't be the first time that sort of thing happened, from 09 F9 to "simp".

I'm not sure if you're aware, but admins have access to this thing called "commandspy", and spamming commands spams chat for anyone with it on.
Plainly there's legitimate reasons to have it on (assuming you aren't always on telnet, or even if you are because of console crashes), and most admins have it on literally all the time.
Most commands have ways to use them multiple times without using them multiple times anyway.
Object.
(oops ninja'd but whatever)

Currentlly, the automated bans go like this:
Kick 1 - 5 minutes
Kick 2 - 10 minutes
Kick 3+ - 24 hours ("$name has been banned.", which isn't exactly clear as to the duration)
...with the kick counter only resetting, as far as I'm aware, when the server restarts. On its current hardware, the server regularly lags badly enough that players can plausibly type 9 messages within 20 ticks, which triggers the autokick, with no intent to spam, and "regularly" here means it's also plausible that it could happen 3 times in 20 minutes. The fact that it issues 24-hour bans for this, well ... isn't great, and definitely means it should—at the very least—be disabled when there's more than one admin currently online.
(reminder to myself to avoid taking 30 minutes polishing unimportant details again)
-
@UnderTails#4710 I mean, I apparently couldn't tell (take a wild guess how awkward I usually am in public and how nice the lockdown feels), and they were on the banlist, so... well, it's not like there's really anything to lose from posting it anyway.
-
I went on telnet a few minutes ago to find it being spammed with "the server hasn't been responding for more than 15 seconds" (with all-caps other stuff saying to not report it to Paper because it's not a bug or crash), and I know that lag spikes can cause the server to think that you did something a lot of times in 1 second instead of 30. And also I was there for Skyfly776 to be falsely auto-banned for the same reason.
@Ashaz#4702: Yes, normally it's only 5 minutes, but if it happens 3 times (which is plausible in this scenario), TFM promotes it from "banned for 5 minutes" to just "banned" (for 24 hours, which isn't exactly clear if it's never happened to you).
Unbanned.

I understand how annoying it must be (and that it should definitely be fixed ASAP), but I personally laugh just about every time I come across one of those completely useless error messages. Including this one.

- 2016, the year I first attained SA status (and I was never promoted to telnet)
- 2020, the year I came back from just over a year of inactivity to find SA/STA merged, reinstatements paused, and multiple owner changes (wait, that's a lot... for less than 2 years... more than what happened from 2014〜15 when I first joined to 2018 when I went inactive)
- 2021, the year I will (most likely) be reinstated for the merged (telnet) admin rank
Can't decide.
Totally unrelated note: why is the subscript markup a tilde?
-
In acknowledgment of the server change freeze preventing this from being officially approved until 4 January, I am posting this a week prior to the unfreeze to allow time to deliberate on it (even though an inactivity reinstatement probably doesn't need that time). Oh, and also because someone else was reinstated for Master Builder like 30 minutes ago.

Your Minecraft name: volleo6144
-
Are you using the same forum & Minecraft account that you used when you were a staff member in the past? (Yes or No). If no, state all former account names and be prepared to verify that you're not an imposter.
Well, technically, no, but practically, yes (...well, technically, forum.totalfreedom.me didn't exist when I was SA, but...)—I used "Volleo6144" with a capital V when I went inactive, and am currently using "volleo6144" (with the case change being 9 months ago, and the previous change—from 6144 to Volleo6144—being in August of 2018).
Note: Reinstatements will not be approved until the EAO can positively verify that the person applying for reinstatement is the same as the past admin - the burden of proof is on the person requesting reinstatement. (I was a premium user since before the 1.6 update added the new launcher. I'm not sure how much more one could reasonably ask for.)
-
What rank were you (Administrator, Senior Admin) and the approx dates you were a staff member: (e.g. super admin from Jun 2010 - Jan 2013)*
A Super Admin from June 2016 to late 2018. My initial admin application, and yes, I do feel deeply embarrassed about all of my past usernames (well, except for 6144 and Volleo6144, obviously). -
Why were you removed from your staff position? (Answer one below and exclude the rest)
a. For long term inactivity? (Yes or No) If Yes, did you post an inactivity notice or did you leave without notice - please explain if no notice was left.
As far as I know, I left without notice: 2018 was ... quite a tumultuous year for me, and I'm not sure I literally had time to post an inactivity notice, or if I did, maybe I thought I didn't. It was two years ago; it's hard to remember.b-f. blah blah blah the answer is no
(Q5 doesn't apply if the answer to Q4 was a)
-
If you are reinstated, how often will you be able to do staff duties?
Most likely very close to every day, and definitely enough days a week for the 168-hour thing within TFM (because I was here for that?) to not happen. -
Have you reviewed the server rules and banning protocols to ensure you're up to speed on any changes that might have occurred since your return from inactivity?
Yes. It's amazing how little has changed about the actual conduct policy—so little, in fact, that I literally don't remember anything not being there two years ago. (Well, actually, I do: 3a and 3g. Still...) -
Do you have a family member that's been on the perm ban list within the past two months?
Nope! ...As far as I know, I don't have any family members who play or have played on this server at all. (e: well I mean maybe "someone else who attended my great grandma's 100th birthday party" family but not "we've ever had the same IP address" family)
Staff Response Instructions: You may vouch or object. However, unlike initial applications for admin and promotion applications, former staff who sincerely wish to overcome past mistakes will normally be given the benefit of the doubt and provided extra chances to succeed or fail. If you don't believe the applicant is sincere, object and state why (e.g. the applicant still has a bad attitude and causing trouble on the server). If the applicant was a former Telnet or Senior you may also vouch to reinstate at a lower level such as Super Admin. (wait, this hasn't been updated since the SA/STA merger?)
- ...2013? Either this template hasn't been updated in literally five years or it means that any concerns over my hiatus being as long as it is aren't very significant.
(note to self: don't take two hours to polish too many details about this)

@GeekGuy432#3295 yup, it turns out they are. After searching through other posts to see why, that seems like a good idea anyway! ...and of course it's embarrassing all the old usernames I had lol

Hey! I'm volleo6144, on basically every online platform nowadays. I have previously been an SA on Total Freedom (under various names, the final one being Volleo6144), but it was over 2 years ago, which is ... a lot of time! I genuinely got confused and thought it was closer to 5 years before looking on the old forums.
My plans for the next few days are to get back into the ... charm of the server before applying for reinstatement. A lot has changed about my personality (and about Minecraft itself) since 2018, but I'm still, like, the same person with the same obsession with Threes! (oh, I forgot, I got the 3072 tile!) and the same everything.
Unfortunately, ProBoards seems to be acting up (after logging in, every page has "Invalid request token / possible request forgery (error 4). If you received this message in error, please go back, refresh, and try again.", which I can't get rid of no matter what), so I can't do anything on the old forum to prove the above, but whatever.
I've been SA before, and I have no idea if "reinstatement" is still the proper path to being admin again after this long.
