Lyicx thinks Windows 8.1 is a good operating system

i am unironically downloading windows 8.1 and installing it on a 120GB partition as we speak because TylerTT

8.1 I used for 5 years and I had tons of BSOD's for no literal reason. The start menu is fucking pure dogshit like jfc I had to install startisback+ to have a real start menu. Windows 10 LTSC all the way.

I twas good at the time, but became inferior once Windows 10 came out. I do have Windows 10 on a VM on my MacBook Pro for my Windows apps.

My issue was only ever that shitty metro start screen that some brain dead Microsoft designer so felt deserved a place on server 2012. Other than that it was a decent os from memory.

I also think Windows 8.1 is very good. Is the last supported OS to be as fast as Windows 7

Windows 8 was a shame to be honest, the design which killed the start menu stopped many people from upgrading (Thats why windows 10 has it)

Windows 8 / 8.1 UI looks like something you would wanna use for a tablet or touchscreen device but never for desktop.

@simplynick#9945 maybe? but most users arent using apps from the start screen. They are using the desktop app and it works just like windows 7, except for the start menu which was replaced with that life killer called start screen. Personally i like that start screen but i didnt use it that much, but you can install Classic Shell or StartIsBack to get the classic start menu back.

i want to put this out there, win + s looks and feels so much better on 8 compared to 10 design wise

Just how it pops out on the side rather then take up a good portion of your screen makes me want to use it instead of just opening StartIsBack. will say it could use with some transparency imo

I might also compile some benchmarks since i've noticed a sizable increase in FPS atleast in minecraft albeit doesn't use the same resource pack or java runtime so its kinda invalid, but i've noticed less usage of ram and hard drive IO too

@Panaghioti#10025 do you have any actual documents or statistics that shows us the amount of users that actually use the start menu?

I personally use it, everyday since 2006 (WinXP, 7 and 10), i only touched windows 8 once on my brother laptop and I automatically upgraded his operating system.
