I know there's controversy around this specific subject as of right now, but I just wanted to ask. If not, why?
Will Chat Signatures ever be officially supported on the network?

because tf players have no filter and will get banned within 5 minutes

That's kind of an assumption though

this is a fact. i am a prime example of that.
i think i remember ryan saying something but i dont recall correctly. personally while im not vocal about the 1.19.1 update i'd rather such systems not be implimented here.

Short answer:
No. Chat is spammy enough as it is, we don't need a chat signature sending every time someone sends a message.

It's true tho

I feel like I'm being misunderstood. I mean the chat signature system that 1.19 adds, not whatever you're thinking about.

Did misunderstand your first post;
The answer is still no.
That's a stupid feature and Mojang should be ashamed.

It's way too early in the morning for me to be having this argument, so eh.

The official short answer is it depends, and not to start with.
I don't personally have enough faith and trust in Microsoft / Mojang to make sensible decisions here and until I see what this system works like in practice for others, it's not something I'm willing to endorse (Which equally isn't an issue for a while given how far behind we tend to run on TF at the moment).
Longer term if the system seems to work and we don't get a flurry of false positives like we've had in previous switches Mojang and MS have done, we'll be happy to have the functionality working.
I've already spoken with Telesphoreo from a Scissors perspective and the current plan I believe is to have it be a config option which TF will have set to disable the signing to start with.

It might be a while until chat signatures are supported on most forks like paper or velocity/waterfall, and a bit after that for it to be fully stable. I appreciate you giving me an actual answer though.

The Scissors configuration option to disable chat signatures was added a few hours after the Paper 1.19.1 update dropped.

I don't even know why this even controversal. Everything on the internet is, and already was signed (think about https). Being against chat signatures is like removing the "s" from "https".

No it's not... At all... The only reason chat messages are signed now is to prove that you sent it and not someone else. Plugins can still modify your chat message and format no problem. If it were a difference of http vs https, it would actually mean that no plugins could modify the chat message itself, which is still possible.

You can still modify an https connection, but not without making every browser freak the fuck out.

the chat signature function simply signs your UUID to the message sent so if it's reported they know who to ban from online play forever
It's not going to be used anytime soon at least until we can figure out what criteria Mojang is using and how effective it is
-
Why would we even want chat signatures on here in the first place? 🤔
-
What if Microsoft/Mojang starts mandating chat signatures? I have no proof that they will, but they probably know that the only way to defeat the reporting system is by not signing messages. So they probably will start mandating chat signatures if they want to force this system on everyone.
