GPU potentially failing

  • ok so my GPU (RX 580 4GB) appears to be failing maybe. basically every so often my screen will turn a glitched green / purple / black for a split second. Around the same time I noticed my lights would start flickering. So I put my computer behind a UPS but it's still happening so that rules out spotty power (I think).

So I was potentially thinking buying something like this. https://www.amazon.com/XFX-Speedster-Radeon-Graphics-RX-66XL8LFDQ/dp/B09HHLX543

However, part of it is that I have a 450W PSU which isn't great. I don't wanna put a new GPU in and then the PSU gets fried. My CPU is a Ryzen 5 1400, 16GB of RAM, and a SSD.

No idea if that really matters but those are my other specs. So I guess I'm asking if that GPU will work with my computer and if I'd need a newer PSU. My motherboard is a MSI B350M (https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B350m-BAZOOKA/support)

I've had this GPU since I got the computer in 2017 so I'm not sure if it's headed towards the gutter. I really don't know what I'm doing so that's why I'm asking here

  • I've downgraded back to Windows 10 and am not immediately seeing symptoms. My PC is also much faster lol. Interestingly the latest AMD drives (22.5.1) wasn't able to install. 22.3.1 worked fine so we'll see if these drivers are any better.

  • Here's something I've noticed. It seems to happen the most when my computer is under load (i.e. Minecraft, IntelliJ, Discord, Spotify open) is when it happens. I don't recall it ever happening under idle. Could it potentially be the RAM? It's interesting to note that the configurations of the RAM are indeed weird and they're at different speeds. I've never had issues until now but I wouldn't be surprised if that was causing it.

I was thinking about replacing it with this? https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-3200MHz-Desktop-Memory/dp/B07RM39V5F/

I assume RAM is just compatible with all motherboards (coming from a world of Apple, can't assume anything) but I'd like to be sure

this may be stupid or obvious but have you tried seeing if the monitor is causing the issue? I have a strangely similar flickering issue which I'm 99% sure is (somehow) caused by my monitor

Telesphoreo The only thing I’ve noticed is that it happens when my computer is under load so I’m thinking RAM

It could also be motherboard. I had issues on my last computer where we think a capacitor fried so when drawing more power the board shorted and caused a bsod. Wouldn't surprise me if that might be happening.

With things like ram I think there's memory checking tools in Windows that might give you some warm fuzsies?
