Any way to make Word less huge??

I've gone through every single setting on Office 365 and I can't seem to figure out make the ribbon smaller. All I know is that this is Office 365 provided by university so it's not the standalone Office 2021 app. If it were, I simply would revert to 2019 where the ribbon wasn't ridiculously huge.

I don't have any screenshots on hand but I know that the ribbon wasn't this fat before. This is seriously irritating because I'm currently working on a 20 page paper and I need constant access to the ribbon but I feel like it takes up half my screen.

This is on Windows ARM on my M1 Mac

↩  Allink that's not an option given that this is not plain text. it has many graphics, table of contents and figures, custom captions, and section breaks and I simply don't have the time to learn a new software and convert the document to something else
