It's a legacy of the cracked days. We used to do it as a precaution to stop players joining as an admin and stealing items / similar and being a general pain.
But yes I think we've said we're scrapping the system entirely.
there's actually an announcement in tf ingame that says "Make sure to use saved hotbars so you don't lose your inventory" or something along those lines, completely up to your responsiblity

I'm approving this but by removing the entire verification system, the original ticket that we had (FS-5) doesn't seem to do what it's supposed to do, so https://totalfreedom.atlassian.net/browse/FS-445 raised to remove it fully which will resolve this issue.
