So, YouTube has decided to completely hide dislike counts. I've been using YouTube for over a decade now, even during the days when Video Responses and the 5-star system were in place. Hell, I remember when the player used to be light-themed. However, I have never been so disappointed in this shithole of a site before, and I thought their "poly" redesign was bad. What were they thinking with this shit?
YouTube is full of morons

They weren't thinking in the first place
-
meh it doesnt make a difference. the only videos with a ton of dislikes just disable their ratings regardless
also its not like other social media have dislikes. -

Yeah this is why I'm not too bothered. The system was already in place - if someone got a ton of dislikes they just didn't show ratings. So the shit clickbait or bonafide scam content was still able to be watched without people knowing it was shit. The only time you could actually see dislikes this past year or so was when the video had like 99% likes anyway, so the dislikes didn't matter.
Tbh the seeds were sewn for this years ago when they made the dislike button on comments arbitrary.

Do the creators see the dislikes

Whoever thought of doing that is a goofball

Correction: Twitter is full of morons

Youtube is pretty left leaning in their political stance, which I have no problem with, however they use the power they have to support Biden, which I do have a problem with. I wouldn't want Youtube to become super far-right and hide all likes on videos by communists or something as much as I don't want them hiding dislikes on the White House account.
And of course, they are still covering their asses for that clusterfuck of a Rewind in 2018.

↩ enchy I wouldn't say any of this is politically motivated.
Firstly YouTube implemented a new comments system several years ago where dislikes didn't actually do anything for anyone but the person who disliked.
Then, more recently, YouTube allowed creators to completely hide the like and dislike counts on their videos. Sure, it was an option, but many videos which would attract a large number of dislikes had the votes disabled to hide the dislike count.
Now the situation presents itself as this (I disagree with most of this going forward) - generally, videos with a large amount of dislikes published by creators have the votes disabled to hide these. And generally, the main videos where you can see the dislike count, it's usually <5% of the votes and rather negligible.
Now I don't feel the situation is justifiable, but it's not unreasonable, given that dramatic oversimplified and generalised information, that someone might say the dislike button isn't really needed.
I don't believe any politics is involved in this, it doesn't matter whose sitting in the oval office - YouTube has been slowly moving towards this for years and it shouldn't be a massive surprise.

this is literally 1984
-
While this isn't a sudden change, I still believe content creators have a right to choose to show or hide the votes. This change forces them to hide them, be it convenient or not.
I think next step, when dust will settle, is removing the dislike button, because what's the point if nobody can see dislikes
-
↩ enchy I believe this is more so youtube's attempting to cater to those who are offended easily. I may be wrong but I recall reading somewhere that part of the justification of this decision is that some feel "attacked" by those who dislike their videos.
Its stupid but its what you have to expect in today's age 🤷

Everything has been political since Trump got office. YouTube and other platforms added fact checks, just decisions have definitely been empowered and influenced by politics
I ultimately think however that this was because YouTube got tired of spending money and getting dislikes because they had to sorta make rewinds in a family friendly way that their sponsors would enjoy. I think it all boils down to executives upset because Rewind got the most dislikes

literally who cares
