At this point in time, we're currently using BungeeCord. I believe we should switch to Velocity first off because:
Waterfall, the more bettered fork of BungeeCord (meaning more patches, improvements on performance, etc.), is currently being discouraged and users using it are being recommended to the newer proxy software, Velocity. As stated in their announcement of bringing on Velocity, PaperMC's team states, "While we have no current plans to discontinue the Waterfall proxy software in the near future, we cannot promise what the future will bring - we encourage those using Waterfall to consider switching to Velocity as their preferred, modern, proxy solution instead." In the original creator/founder of Velocity's words, Velocity is a "proxy focused on scalability and flexibility." (Info @ https://gist.github.com/astei/…eac2c98ce48f0c4704af81a3b)

If PaperMC's team is recommending Velocity over the fork of Waterfall, then it should honestly be a "hey, we should change" moment. Many big plugins already provide support for velocity, and from personal experience, it has definitely provided a huge positive different in performance than bungeecord/waterfall ever has, allowing a more stable proxy to hold a bigger count of players.

  • As I said on discord right now there's no real urgency to change from my perspective. I personally think we have bigger fish to fry than trying to squeeze performance out of something that is already heavily under-utilized due to our tiny active playerbase.

  •   Tizz velocity is a completely new proxy software, not related or a fork of bungee in anyway shape or form. the configs are fairly easy to setup, and many big plugins already support it. its api is also very simple and has amazing documentation

  •   Ivan It's not a hot swap... It requires testing and verifying that it doesn't fuck things up which it is already known to in our environment.

I don't get this obsession of trying to optimise parts of our network that doesn't need it because we rarely have more than 20 concurrent players.

  •   videogamesm12 But that's not happening is it... The bungee only goes down when I take it down for maintenance. It has never come close to hitting performance issues and nobody has ever complained about poor user experiences.

That's my point, this is a pointless activity that creates work for no tangible reward.

  •   taah another reason I'd rather not be doing it... We'd have to stand up servers we can't justify...

  • @'Ryan' there's no way a dev proxy takes so much of the performance it's not gonna have many players on it, only thing that's needed is that it needs to be connected to the dev freedom server
regardless if we aren't able to do testing on the current vps, most of our devs are able to host locally

  •   taah You've yet to actually provide any reason to even entertain this.

There's no need for a Dev proxy when the developers are all for the freedom game mode only...

I don't see how this is going to give any noticeable benefits to our players and instead it just creates more work on me for no benefit...

Nobody here has provided a reason to waste time doing this given the huge amount of other work that is user facing where our time can be better used...
