I like where this suggestion is going, but it brings up a major concern.

What could we do to prevent users from running this command on existing builds?

We offer the plotworld exactly for this purpose.

Object. The only way I see that we could feasibly make this possible is to check for no coreprotect logs in the area (i.e, the chunks are new), to avoid trolls claiming other people's builds. Which would boil the idea down to claiming your very own patch of blank land that nobody can grief. Which is the definition of a plot.

If players grief, admins have the tools to undo (almost) all damage.

We sometimes allow OPs to have safe areas using WorldGuard for special reasons (e.g. Imperium), but it requires experienced staff to make it work as intended and not accidentally restrict other people's freedom, or give griefers ways to bypass them.

However, we'll need to revisit some ideas around freedom or how important we consider people's works in the freeop server, as Ryan's opening the plot server in the near future to replace the current plotworld.

↩ @'Anes' I just wouldn't be an idiot by building something solely in freebuild and would build stuff in the plot world instead.

People who are like "just use plots", NO! Plots are restrictive, they're only 100x100 blocks in size and you cannot merge them because OPs don't have plot merge permission. Guilds build in The End just for the End sky, you cannot get that sky in the Plotworld, even if you set your plot's biome to The End. For these reasons, this is why people don't use plots.

So right now I don't think this is the direction people want TF to be going down, we do have a plots world (I know it's broken) and will soon have a plots server, where a lot of the current pains people are having will be resolved so merging / similar will be possible.
