Revolt - a better version of Discord

    It's currently in public beta but it looks pretty promising. It looks a lot nicer and cleaner than Discord. It's obviously lacking a whole bunch of features, but it's still in public beta.

    i would one day like to move away from discord to be fair, this and guilded seem like very good contenders but alas, moving away from a platform like that is difficult

    Discord in it's entirety, is not.

    I think the main advantage of an open source variant is that you can host it yourself. Sure, most people don't care, but Discord doesn't have the greatest privacy policy, and there are a lot of organizations that would like to have the user-friendliness of Discord while remaining in complete control of the platform.
