Remove ip addresses from indefinite ban requests

  • Suggestion to remove ip addresses from indefinite ban requests and any other posts that have ip addresses. I think its pretty crazy that someone can just google your name and find my general location.
If you need to indicate that someone is ban bypassing, you could just say it

  • Vouch, I would also ask that MY Ip be removed from this site where it appears because I have recieved threats before......

also vouching because there really isnt any reason to have them to the PUBLIC, thats essentially giving the whole world your IP address, which is really a douche move and can lead to threats.

  • There are a lot of options here, but they all come with their own downsides. We could just stop banning IP addresses in indefinite ban requests, but that might reduce security. Restricting the entire section to admins reduces transparency, and making the IP addresses only visible to admins requires development, which we are short on.

  •   batchest I disagree with that idea, since I believe the entire community should be able to see the evidence on why the player should be banned. I also feel like a player has a right to see their own ban request and the evidence against them.

  •   StevenNL2000 A compromise would be to separate the sensitive info from the IBR. Like sending a message to you or having an admin thread where to put those, with a link in the IBR to the specific post.

  • I am still yet to understand why we actually need to show the IP at all, even to just admins.

Why is an IP evidence of what a player has done..?

Is this only included for your discretion? If so why can’t the poster just DM you the IP?

Oh, I wouldn't mind IPs being removed, I was just objecting to the idea to make ban requests admin only. Sorry for that confusion.

Because we have no working forums DM system, and being on Discord is not currently a mandatory requirement for admin (And I'd argue even less secure)

im sure if it comes down to that, the indef ban appeal templates can have a public key for the person to encrypt the ip with

but first we should start by removing the existing ones

  •   RedEastWood Doesn't mean we can make a process demanding discord without changing the admin requirements. We do afaik have admins that aren't in the discord. I have spoken with @"videogamesm12"#4 about changing the minimum admin requirements, if he wants to make discord mandatory then that's fine.

  • @'Ryan' Fun fact: Admins have verification system always on. If one doesn't have Discord, they're locked out unless someone else manually verifies them.

  • I vouch for it to be moved back to admin only. I really don't see any reason why it should be in the public view, not to mention we've seen drama unfold from the person that the request is for.
