Flarum has a weird way of managing stickied discussions. You need to mark them as read to make them disappear from "All discussions".
-
Yeah they're pinned until you read them...

most of the templates don’t need to be pinned (the info category exists for a reason) and some posts should be merged. the pin system doesn’t work very well on flarum where we read by latest responses. so, we should be more conservative about pins.
it’s very common for people to clear their browser data, whether by browser extensions (cookie autodelete, history cleaner) or manually, especially on mobile. on desktop, i use cookie autodelete to evade tracking cookies, and on iOS i use private browsing for most things because it doesn’t have that extension yet. on the other hand, i have found the wall of pins to be a nice way to tell whether or not i’m logged in on mobile.
also, those who browse the forum without an account, or those who just don’t care for every pin, would appreciate not needing to click to load more posts just to reach the first actual discussion.

Vouch most of them dont need to be pinned and also for someone who is not logged in its literally a full page worth of sticky threads every time

↩ @'Ryan' No sane OP will want to come onto this forum and have to immediately read 23 (yes i counted them) pinned posts.
Some of that stuff doesn’t even need to be pinned because it’s outdated or nobody really cares.
If you’re suggesting what I think you are, which is you expect every OP to read all of those posts just to have a clear forum view (which is offered on every other server without any work), then I think we should merge all of them into a big “read-me thread” that contains the key points of all of those threads.
We can then unpin the main threads while providing links to them in the read-me thread.
-
↩ RedEastWood They're stickied because they generally need to be. If some of them are no longer relevant we can get rid of the pins but merging them isn't an acceptable answer either...
Unfortunately this is part of the shit that is flarum, not much I can do. They aren't a single thread and they need generally to be pinned in the board.
Most of the threads I would expect people to read or to mark as read.
This is another reason flarum isn't exactly my choice of forums...

was just gonna post about this...
there is like maybe like 2 A3 pieces of
paper lmao

My understanding is that we wouldn't have this suggestion if we could simply hide pinned threads from "All discussions" while they're still pinned in their respective category.
Some threads need to be stickied unfortunately. I bring this fine example: Admin Information Megathread, where there are instructions on how to vote on applications. Most of people, me included, ignored neutral votes had been removed until I digged into old applications and found this.

It turns out that there is a Flarum plugin that allows you to make discussions sticky only in the tag they are in and not on the All Discussions page:
https://discuss.flarum.org/d/27888-stickiestI vote to install this plugin.
-
Vouch for the above plugin.
-
↩ StevenNL2000 i have been under the impression that ryan is unwilling to install plugins or customize the flarum install further in any meaningful way. we're supposed to switch to woltlab whenever that's able to become a priority.

We actually installed a new plugin to allow video embeds just a week ago:

I object to the original idea if we can add Stickiest as suggested by Steven
-
As part of simplifying things some threads have now been un-stickyed because they no longer are applicable. If folks have other specific threads they don't see as being needing to have a sticky tag, please raise specific suggestions for those threads.
