Zero-Tolerance Policy for Exploit Usage.

Please Note: The TotalFreedom Forum has now been put into a read-only mode. Total Freedom has now closed down and will not be returning in any way, shape or form. It has been a pleasure to lead this community and I wish you all the best for your futures.
  • This suggestion calls for a Zero-Tolerance stance of players using or attempting to use harmful exploits on the server on the basis of TotalFreedom is not the place to "test" your exploits, especially the varieties known for being able to cause data loss on the server or can easily crash players/server with minimal effort by the user, clear violations of the conduct policy. This suggestion will not require any new rules be added to the conduct policy, but instead place a 'Zero-Tolerance' stance on the usage of exploits on the server due to the reasons stated at the beginning of this post.

    Why Suggest This?

This suggestion is being done in light of a recent case in which an operator was caught using an exploit, inadvertently crashing an admin investigating the incident (myself) and despite the blatant Section 1 violations, insisted they did nothing wrong and a massive shitshow ensured. The large amount of evidence proving that the exploit is indeed capable of causing damage and the effects it could do proved otherwise, thankfully which resolved the incident. This suggestion calls for preventing future incidents like the mentioned one in which a player uses obviously forbidden exploits potentially gets a 'free pass' from being rightly punished by the server conduct policy by taking advantage of grey areas in the conduct policy.
    Additional Information:

    • Simply possessing an exploit in your inventory will most likely not be under the scope of this policy because unless the person possessing it is actually using it, there is no way to prove malicious intent; the person could potentially be a victim of an exploit and would be unfairly banned as a result.
    • The usage of exploits on the server easily falls under these and Section 1 policies and there is no mention of whether or not the user has to even be successful in causing harm to the server or what is classified as "using an exploit" which may lead to grey areas in regards to interpretation. This suggestion will fix this by simply outlining that any exploit usage is forbidden, regardless if they successfully were able to cause harm to the server or players.

  • It's pretty much already ZTP? I have yet to see an IBR not be filed for a player using crash exploits / of the likes.

You're also forgetting about the potential accidental findings of an exploit. Someone may genuinely not mean to find an exploit or an exploit may be hidden under a different name, tricking the player into using it.

  • Vouch under these conditions:
1: its done more than once without admin consent (unless the one time was with a player(s) that did not consent to testing)
This is because some exploits could be discovered accidentally   Shdwo

2: Its done without admin consent AND supervision

TotalFreedom is different to both singleplayer and the average server in many ways, leaving all exploit testing to the devs and admins would just be putting more on their plate, ops have found exploits such as the dead armor stand and the sign exploit. Writing off the testing of exploits entirely isnt a good idea, in my opinion people should always test these on SP and/or a free server before even thinking about bringing it to TF, and if you do want to test it on TF then just ask for admin supervision. Not only is it better for you the op since if you get chunk banned or inv banned you can get autotped or autocleared quickly, its better for the staff team as there are now 2 witnesses that can testify to what the exploit does.

  • A. what qualifies as a harmful exploit
    B. would you really ban someone who never showed malicious intent?

    Quote

Ivan TotalFreedom is NOT a sandbox for testing harmful exploits. Open your own server if you want to test that shit

people who say this are like the people who are scared of 5g because they have no idea what it is. The hd head itself was patched because Mojang considered it a harmful exploit?
any exploit that does not crash the server should be allowed, Anyone maliciously abusing exploits should be banned just like anyone abusing an intentional feature should be banned

  • I'm not a fan of zero tolerance on things like this for the reasons outlined. The new conduct policy should clear this position up generally anyway
