For me it's just Optifine or forge because i like shaders and dynamic sound mods.

Legit have a phobia of hack clients after something in my .minecraft folder got corrupted somehow after installing one

I always use vanilla, you'll never find me using hacks and whenever I use Optifine it's just to test my resource pack. Also for some reason Optifine actually makes me lag more???
