your opinion on windows 11

  • honestly not that bad, have been using it for a bit now and i enjoy it
i have a shit pc with a 2nd generation intel cpu so i had to do some registry stuff to update but it doesn't feel sluggish at all or anything
personally i don't care if microsoft can see that i looked up something once or twice because they don't give a shit about me individually so the trackers aren't a big deal for me

would be pretty difficult to do that since the operating system market is a natural monopoly

  • I've been using win11 since the day it was released. My only problem is battery life issue, because it went from 3-4 hours (normal school usage) on win10 to only 45minutes-1 hour, which I just realized after the 10 day period >.>

  • Been running it on my desktop. I ended up reverting pretty much every single design choice in 11 using StartAllBack. It's been fine, but it's something I definitely wouldn't deploy yet.

  • @'r00t' Vista brought the horrendous UAC or User Account Control which was Microsoft’s solution to gaping holes in security by placing the burden on the user to ask his permission before opening any elevated program. Oh, and they also brought DRM!

UAC has gradually improved but the security of Windows is still piss poor compared to other operating systems, or just look at the tools that come with your average Linux distribution.

Internet Explorer still can’t be removed. Or Edge, sledge, crapola or whatever they’re calling their knockoff Chrome now.

It looks like the main feature that comes with Windows 11 is your computer being more wired into Microsoft’s information systems that collect your personal data and urge you to feed them your payment info. At least they’ve spared older computers from being forced to upgrade with stringent requirements.

The actual, real Internet Explorer (not Edge) can be disabled and rendered unusable in 'Turn Windows features on or off' in the 'Programs' area of Control Panel. I'm 100% sure edge can't be disabled by design. Windows 10 LTSC is a version that does not include edge so users don't have to worry about that if they want a version of windows that doesn't have edge.

    what does “by design” mean

(oh and edge can be disabled, as it is based on chromium, command-line options can uninstall it, effectively “disabling” it)

can’t forget the Aero Glass theme, which most computers at the time couldnt actually run

There is nothing "average" about Linux, or any other *nix system.

    Knockoff Chromium, you mean.
