Require people to state a reason to vote

  • Currently, Hub Mod applications have a requirement you must state your reason on why you voted. This suggestion is to extend it to all current and future applications, and ban appeals. In order to vote, you must state a valid reason on why you decided to vouch, object, or went neutral. In order for the reason to be considered "valid", it must be based on the person's character and not your opinion of the person ("vouch, i like this person" or "object! i hate this person" are not valid reasons) and your reason cannot also be based on another person's vote ("vouch because vouched", "object because objected", "vouch/object due to 's reasons", and copy and pasted reasons are also not valid)

    ALTERNATIVE SUGGESTION:
Instead of completely nullifying people who didn't state a reason, we just give extra weight for those who did instead.

  • Honestly, neutrals should be paid more attention to because it pains to see someone putting a bare "Neutral" on something important without stating why.

  • @'_97' i would honestly go as far to say currently neutrals with no reason behind it are powerposting. if you aint got a reason to state a neutral, dont fucking vote

and i've been trying to push for this in my event host applications but unfortunately i dont feel like i've been listened to. ill likely go through them all tomorrow and make an actual thread about it

i fucking put everything into you and you stomped on it.

  • Vouch, but also require people to not use "object due to this person's reasons" or "vouch due to this person's reasons" because people are going to do that if they're just vouching/objecting out of liking/disliking the applicant.

    "Never Surrender."

  •   enchy to be fair "Object for 's reasoning" works fine in that regard

if i haven't already, im vouching i believe informative votes ends up with a more better verdict in these cases

i fucking put everything into you and you stomped on it.

  • Here's an alternative suggestion for the people who objected:
Would you vouch if instead of completely nullifying votes, we just give the votes who did state a reason extra weight instead?

  • Please be advised, I am writing this as I'm about to go to bed at 5 AM. I apologize if I sound incoherent.

The way I see things, in systems where votes are evaluated based on reason, the number of votes become irrelevant as the weight of one's argument becomes the deciding factor. In my rather subjective opinion, arguments that actually provide a different viewpoint carry more weight than votes "for the reasons above". The reason why is simple: the former usually brings something new to the table, while the other is just like adding a single piece of paper on top of the original.

  • From what I have seen, the petitions on this server go by a vouch:object ratio, but nobody gives anyone reasoning behind their vote, we cannot see bias through a single word This is why we should make a modification. If your gonna vouch/object, you are required to give valid reasoning, this would promote a quality over quanity and make people stray away from bias because it would be more easily sensible. Ask yourselves, when ya'll unban players because of a high vouch count, do they really stay unbanned for long? No! The only way to be certain that a right decision is being made would be requiring evidence and reasoning to a vouch/object. Thoughts?
