It's got bad UI design, it's covered in ads, and it sells your personal information.
Shit like this should be illegal.

It should Definitely be illegal
i believe requests for cookies and personal information should be regulated to make it easier to have an opt out button.
Why illegal?
@Miwojedk#11014 It's mainly the part about selling your personal information. That should be a crime. Nobody wants to be harassed by a shitty ad company over their activities on the internet.
im going to make a new namemc
update: SHEEEEEEESH
@videogamesm12#11015 there's literally a popup on your screen with the optipn "Do not sell my data"
@Miwojedk#11025 It's literally in fine print, unlike the big button that basically says "sure! whore off my personal information to your advetisers!"
My main issue with the website is that it is way too heavy if you just want to look up some usernames. Since I look up usernames quite frequently for bans, I actually wrote my own tool that is intentionally as bare-bones as possible:
@StevenNL2000#11033 Where can I use this?
I turned my 4 adblockers off to see how bad it really is. This is just ridiculous.
Keep using your adblockers.
@videogamesm12#11037 https://files.catbox.moe/w4woqq.html. Save the page as an HTML file and open it from the folder you saved it in. It was not intended as a public tool, though, so I make no guarantees about its functionality.
@Alco_Rs11#11038 why do you have 4 Adblockers? i only got Ublock lol
@lyicx#11046 idk lmao 4's better than 1 i guess. I also use ublock lmfao.

I do the same, having just one is never enough.
@StevenNL2000#11043 that's really nice compared to namemc. not saying you're a software publisher now and are obligated to fix every little bug, but this doesn't actually work when two different people have used the same name (see PurpleGirl12500 or markbryon for example)
@Telesphoreo#11081 That's not a bug, but a limitation of the API I am using. The official Mojang API is so heavily rate-limited that it is unusable without a full database for caching. In contrast, the API I am using has no rate limits whatsoever, but it can only look up the current holder of the username. In the case of PurpleGirl12500 or markbryon, there is none, so it returns no result.
I made a Discord bot that could give you some of that information using a similar API as the one Steven uses.
I tried to recreate StevenNL2000's code but for PHP. This is the outcome:
